As summer approaches, the AHRI is reminding consumers to ensure their HVAC equipment keeps them cool this summer.
"Heating and cooling is the single biggest energy consumer in a home, and accounts for about 40 percent of all the energy used by homeowners," said Stephen Yurek, president and CEO of the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute. "That's why taking steps to ensure the unit is running as efficiently as possible can help offset cooling costs this summer."

Boiler MACT regulations go to OMB for review

Recently several news outlets reported that the Environmental Protection Agency has sent the final Boiler MACT regulations over to the Office of Management and Budget for final review. It's expected that OMB will finish the review in the next few weeks, and the EPA will issue the regulations in the next month or so.

ACEEE: Energy efficiency gaining ground in inefficient states

Energy efficiency is gaining momentum in states that have traditionally been behind the curve in pushing such technology, according to research by the American Council for Energy-Efficient Economy. But states that have usually ranked lowest on the ACEEE's annual State Energy Efficiency Scorecard must still address numerous barriers to energy efficiency, according to the new report, Opportunity Knocks: Examining Low-Ranking States in the State Energy Efficiency Scorecard.

Deloitte: 9 out of 10 businesses have energy goals

Businesses are driving efforts to cut energy consumption even as the economy recovers, and plan to cut energy use nearly 25 percent over three to four years, according to a survey from the Deloitte Center for Energy Solutions.
The annual survey, reSources 2012, found nine out of 10 companies have set goals on electricity use and energy management practices.

Orders for long-lasting factory goods edged up slightly in April but a key category that tracks business investment spending fell for a second straight month.
Orders for durable goods increased a slight 0.2 percent last month after a 3.7 percent decline in March, the Commerce Department said recently.

Proposed changes to energy standard for existing buildings open for public comment

Public input is being sought on revisions to ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 100-2006, Energy Conservation in Existing Buildings. Last year, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America announced they were revising Standard 100-2006 to provide greater guidance and a more comprehensive approach to the retrofit of existing buildings for increased energy efficiency. The standard was first published in 1981, and the associations noted that the need for its requirements has grown as more attention is paid to improving efficiency in the current building stock.

Manufacturers urge action on currency manipulation in free trade agreements

In an effort to prevent trading partners from manipulating their currency, a cross-section of U.S. manufacturers and industrial groups recently signed a letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk urging them to include rules governing currency manipulation as a key point of any future trade agreements.
