Sen. Susan Collins bill would delay new boiler regulations

Citing the worries of a Maine business, Sen. Susan Collins and Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon introduced a bill recently that would delay new federal regulations limiting emissions from industrial boilers. The bill would give the Environmental Protection Agency 15 months to re-examine the issue and come up with final rules. It would also extend compliance deadlines from three years to five. More



Advance in US leading index signals recovery to pick up in second half

The index of U.S. leading indicators rose in June, confirming the Federal Reserve's forecast that the economy will pick up in the second half of the year. The Conference Board's gauge of the outlook for the next three to six months climbed 0.3 percent after a 0.8 percent gain in May, the New York-based research group said recently. Jobless claims rose more than forecast and consumer confidence stagnated previously, while manufacturing in the Philadelphia area rebounded in July, other reports showed. More

A strong 18-3 bipartisan vote by the Senate Energy Committee to advance the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act, S. 1000 was lauded by The Alliance to Save Energy, which called on the full Senate to quickly enact the energy-efficiency package. The law would strengthen building energy codes, provide energy efficiency financing options for manufacturers, and require the federal government to improve its energy management. More

The top public global manufacturing firms spent $8 billion in the first six months of 2011 on contracts for information technology and business process services, according to the 2Q11 Global TPI Index. The index measures commercial outsourcing contracts valued at $25 million or more among the Forbes Global 2000 companies.
