US HVAC equipment demand to soar by 2015

Demand in the U.S. for HVAC equipment is projected to increase by 5.1 percent annually to $16.8 billion in 2015 according to new research. Research from the Freedonia Group, an industry market research firm has found that these advances will be stimulated by growth in both residential and nonresidential construction spending from a low 2010 base. EPA: More changes coming for boilers and incinerators?

The EPA has proposed new changes to the Clean Air Act standards for boilers and incinerators. The standards have public health protection at the focal point, with the goal of significantly reducing toxic air pollutants. The newly proposed standards reduce the cost of implementation by approximately 50 percent in compared to the 2010 proposal. More

On Nov. 30, the Energy Information Administration released an Analysis of Impacts of a Clean Energy Standard. The study was requested by Sen. Jeff Bingaman, Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. The analysis examined the impacts of a "clean energy standard" or CES - a requirement that electric utilities meet an increasing portion of their generation from "clean" energy resources including renewable, natural gas, and nuclear energy, as well as coal with carbon capture and storage. The primary analysis did not include energy efficiency, but one of the alternative cases that EIA examined illustrated the positive impacts of energy efficiency in reducing the costs of and the emissions from a CES. New orders for manufactured goods fell in October

The Census Bureau reported that new orders for manufactured goods fell 0.4 percent, with both durables and nondurables declining for the month, down 0.5 percent and 0.3 percent. All percentages are expressed in annual terms. This was the second consecutive month with a decrease, and it was led by steep drop in transportation, down 5.1 percent. If transportation numbers were excluded, new orders would have increased by 0.2 percent. More
