Ontario Power Generation considering biomass option for Thunder Bay plant

Ontario Power Generation says it's taking a closer look at whether the Mission Island Generating Station could be converted to burn biomass. The conversion of Thunder Bay's Mission Island Generating Station from coal power to natural gas was halted as Ontario Power Generation said it couldn't strike a power purchase agreement with the Ontario Power Authority.

Canada appeals WTO renewable energy decision

Canada has appealed a recent WTO dispute panel finding that local content requirements for renewable energy generation in the province of Ontario violate international trade rules. The province's feed-in tariff scheme aims to support renewable energy by guaranteeing electricity generators above-market rates on certain renewable sources of energy, such as wind and solar.

Open house for new generating station
Napanee Guide
TransCanada Energy presented some information about their Napanee Generating Station project at an open house. The event was an informal opportunity for area media and residents to interact with TransCanada staff and consultants about plans for the proposed new plant, a 900 megawatt natural gas-fuelled generating station that is promising to boost the municipal economy substantially, with projections of 600 construction-related jobs, 25 long-term jobs, and more than $1 million in local taxes.
