The Government of Canada invests in geothermal energy

Yukon MP, Ryan Leef, on behalf of, Minister Aglukkaq announced funding for research and development into potential renewable sources of natural geothermal energy in Yukon. The Government of Yukon, Department of Energy, Mines and Resources' Energy Branch will work in cooperation with the Yukon Geological Survey and the Canadian Geothermal Energy Association to develop maps and reports that will identify sources of renewable energy.

OWA advances data and information sharing for Waterpower projects

The Ontario Waterpower Association (OWA) is pleased to announce the award of a contract to 4DM and Senes Consultants (both OWA members) to complete a feasibility study for the proposed "Waterpower Reference Centre." This project is being undertaken through a partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) and is intended to leverage the considerable investment being made by the water power industry in the collection of data and information related to hydroelectric projects.

Canadian International Trade Tribunal
The Canadian International Trade Tribunal, pursuant to the provisions of subsection 34 of the Special Import Measures Act, has conducted a preliminary injury inquiry into whether the evidence discloses a reasonable indication that the dumping and subsidizing of photovoltaic modules and laminates consisting of crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells, including laminates shipped or packaged with other components of photovoltaic modules, and thin-film photovoltaic products have caused injury or are threatening to cause injury to the domestic industry.

Deepwater gives Alstom green light

U.S. developer Deepwater Wind has given Alstom formal notice to proceed on the 30MW Block Island offshore wind project. The facility off Rhode Island will feature five Alstom Haliade 150 6MW turbines (pictured) and is poised to become America’s first commercial offshore wind farm. Deepwater Wind Block Island, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Deepwater Wind, recently revealed it has reached financial close on the project.

Non-hydro renewable electricity outshines all other sources and grows 11 per cent in 2014

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)'s latest "Electric Power Monthly" report, with data through the end of 2014, net electrical generation from non-hydro renewable energy sources increased by 10.9 per cent over the previous year. The contribution to net electrical generation by just solar more than doubled (102.8 per cent) while wind grew by 8.3 per cent, biomass by 5.7 per cent, and geothermal by 5.4 per cent.

U.K. government invests £25 million in game-changing green technologies
