ASA Distributor Member Strength Continues

In Q2 2013, the growing strength trend within American Supply Association distributor members continued. Q2 '13 per day quarterly revenues stood at 7.3% as compared to only 3.6% in Q3 of 2012. The growth rate is returning to the levels seen in late 2010 through the early parts of 2012. As compared to 2011, they are up 14.4% for the month and 14.7% for the quarter; vs. 2010, a 25.7% increase for the month and a 25.0% increase for the quarter; vs. 2009, a 29.3% increase for the month and 27.9% for the quarter, and as compared to 2008, up 8.1% for the month and 5.8% for the quarter.

ASA Safety Award Nomination Deadline Aug. 1

Nominations for ASA's 2012 Member Safety Recognition Awards, to be presented during NetworkASA 2013 in Washington, D.C., are being accepted through Thursday, Aug 1. Six awards will be presented — three in the distributor category and three in the manufacturer category — and all are based on number of safe hours worked in 2012. The award program was created by the ASA Safety Committee to elevate awareness in all aspects of the PHCP and PVF industry and to recognize ASA members who had the lowest incident rate of nonfatal injuries and illnesses throughout the previous year. States Split Between June Construction Job Gains, Losses
Modern Distribution Management
Equal numbers of states gained and lost construction jobs in June, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America of Labor Department data. Association officials said despite most states' year-over-year gains, construction employment levels are below peak levels for almost every state.

US Manufacturing Turns Positive in June

After stumbling in the spring, the American manufacturing sector looks to be on stronger footing heading into the second half of this year. Industrial production rose 0.3% in June, in line with analysts' expectations, after falling by that much in April and no growth in May, the Federal Reserve said. The recent increase reflected strong gains in automotive, home electronics and industrial machinery. That suggests improving demand from both consumers and businesses, although production of information-processing goods fell in June from the previous month.

Homebuilder Confidence in US Increases More than Forecast

Confidence among U.S. homebuilders rose more than forecast in July to the highest level since January 2006 as companies grew more optimistic about sales prospects. The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo index of builder sentiment rose by 6 points to 57 during the month, the Washington-based group reported. The reading surpassed all but one forecast in a Bloomberg survey of 49 economists. Readings above 50 mean more respondents said conditions were good.

US Manufacturers: There's No Place Like Home

Some 63% of manufacturers said they are optimistic about the U.S. economy, up from 55 percent in the first quarter and 11 points higher than a year ago, according to the Q2 2013 Manufacturing Barometer from PricewaterhouseCoopers released July 18. Moreover, 72% of respondents said they believe the U.S. economy grew in the second quarter, up 10 points from the first quarter of 2013.
