Despite Mixed Signals, Improvement in Store for U.S. Economy
ASA Advisor©
Despite throwing some mixed signals, the U.S. economy is well-positioned for growth, and several leading indicators support the positive outlook for the latter half of this year and well into 2017. First, U.S. Industrial Production is on track for a cyclical reversal this quarter and recovery through the remainder of 2016. Second, the U.S. Purchasing Managers Index, which typically leads Industrial Production by 9 to 14 months, has been generally rising on a monthly basis since December, 2015. Third, there are signs of improvement in commodity prices, particularly when looking at U.S. Crude Oil Futures. Lastly, Single Unit Housing Starts totaled 73.0 thousand units in July, up 1.3 percent from a year ago, which means construction is an area where the strength of the U.S. consumer will come through.
