The Oct. 28 explosion of the privately owned Antares rocket destroyed a cargo vessel bound for the International Space Station as well as an asteroid-mining company's first spacecraft. The launching accident injured nobody but destroyed some 5,000 pounds of supplies, including the Arkyd 3, a tiny (192 cu. in.) satellite built by asteroid-mining firm Planetary Resources, which includes Google executives Larry Page and Eric Schmidt among its investors. When Disaster Strikes Will Your Business Reopen?
American Supply Association
Many large companies have dedicated disaster planning departments, but for small and medium-sized businesses specialized disaster planning departments don't exist or aren't possible. The responsibility for disaster planning falls on the shoulders of the owner or Business manager who doesn't have the time or resources to put in to a quality disaster plan. Statistics show that one in four businesses forced to close because of a disaster never reopen. ASA offers several disaster preparedness planning kits free to members to help in the creation of a customized, company plan.

Can Better Forecasting Increase Distributor Profitability?
Supply House Times
If you knew exactly how much you were going to sell in the future of each of the items you stock, you could definitely reduce your inventory, right? That precise knowledge of your upcoming demand would mean you would not have to keep "buffer stock" in your inventory for unforeseen sales spikes. On the other hand, by stocking exactly what your customers were going to buy, you would also not have any out of stocks, so you would not lose any sales from not having product in stock.
