NCAA gives Indy future swimming championships

Indianapolis will host the Division I, II or III men's and women's swimming and diving championships every year between 2012 and 2017 under a new deal announced by the NCAA. Indiana University Natatorium, which has hosted several Olympics Trials for swimming and diving over the past 20 years, will be the site for the national championships in March. More

USA Swimming has announced that Oregon State swimming head coach Larry Liebowitz will lead a team of eight U.S. swimmers will travel to Singapore for the Inaugural Youth Olympic Games, August 14-26. The swimming competition will run August 15-20. More

The best swimmers in America come to Charlotte on Thursday, as the UltraSwim meet returns for its 26th year. The meet will feature Olympic swimmers like Michael Phelps, Natalie Coughlin, Ryan Lochte, Aaron Peirsol, Cullen Jones and Charlotte's own Ricky Berens among a star-studded field expected to be the second-strongest of the year, trailing only the U.S. national championships that will be held in August in California. Swedish researchers say those who exercise when young may be rewarded with stronger bones when old. Researchers at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden suggest those in exercise programs when young build stronger bones and may lower their risk of osteoporosis. More

A new study by Lisa Nackers and colleagues, from the University of Florida in the U.S., suggests that the key to long-term weight loss and maintenance is to lose weight quickly, not gradually, in the initial stages of obesity treatment.
