Chui's 'smart doorbell' recognizes faces, greets guests

You've heard of smartphones, smart TVs and even smart bikes. Now a pair of entrepreneurs is introducing a smart doorbell. The Chui doorbell uses facial recognition to notify a homeowner who is at the door. A custom message can be left for friends or strangers. The homeowner will be notified of who is at the door via email.

PPG announces price increase

In an April 24, letter to customers, PPG Industries announced it would increase prices on primary glass products, effective June 2. In the letter, PPG officials attribute the price increase to rising costs of materials, operating expenses and distribution costs, which continue to affect "reinvestment in enhanced product development and security of supply initiatives."

Majority of US states see construction employment increase over past year

EPA levies largest fine ever for lead rule violations

Lowe’s Home Centers, one of the nation’s largest home improvement retailers, has agreed to implement a comprehensive, corporate-wide compliance program at its more than 1,700 stores nationwide to ensure that the contractors it hires to perform work minimize lead dust from home renovation activities, as required by the federal Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule. The company will also pay a $500,000 civil penalty, which is the largest ever for violations of the RRP Rule.

China's Shide Group, BASF unveil 'revolutionary' all-plastic window profile

The PVC window profile market in Asia is expected to increase four-fold by 2025, and Chinese building products maker Dalian Shide Group Co. Ltd. hopes to take a bigger slice of that as a result of a new partnership with German chemicals giant BASF SE. Shide and BASF used the opening day of the Chinaplas trade show to announce that they’ve developed an all-plastic window profile, the world’s first made from PVC and polybutylene terephthalate resins, to try to replace the steel-reinforced PVC windows common today.
