Remodeling conditions continue to show strong growth
Door & Window Market Magazine
The National Association of the Remodeling Industry's third-quarter Remodeling Business Pulse data of current and future remodeling business conditions indicated strong growth in the third quarter of 2014 with a rating of 6.41. Quarter-over-quarter increases are evident in all sub-components measuring remodeling activity, according to NARI. This is the second quarter of growth in 2014, coming on top of June's strong increase over the 6.07 recorded in March.

Construction industry to see more balanced growth in 2015

Dodge Data & Analytics's 2015 Dodge Construction Outlook predicts that total U.S. construction starts for 2015 will rise 9 percent to $612 billion, a larger gain than the 5 percent increase to $564 billion estimated for 2014. "The construction expansion should become more broad-based in 2015, with support coming from more sectors than was often the case in recent years," said Robert Murray, chief economist and vice president for Dodge Data & Analytics.

New York artist to show 'Doors - A Passage to Another Life'

Doors — not your typical artistic medium. Climax, New York-based artist Keith Batten is a fan of using old antique doors as his source of inspiration for his art. Local art lovers will soon get an expanded view of his work. Eventually, after falling in love with what Batten calls the "rustic and relaxed atmosphere" of the Green County area, he bought property in Climax with friends. It was here while driving down Route 26 in Climax that Batten found his first door. "Ten years ago I saw an old cellar door lying on the side of the road, I eventually picked it up and turned it into a piece of art." Batten said. "I'm always looking for interesting doors."

Construction adds 12,000 jobs in October, sees another big drop in unemployment

The U.S. construction industry has now added jobs for a 10th consecutive month with a gain of 12,000 workers in October. The industry now employs 6.095 million Americans, its highest figure since May 2009, according to preliminary data from the Labor Department. Employment in May 2009 was 6.1 million, a hill the industry has been trying to climb over since it eclipsed the June 2009 mark of 6.010 back in June of this year.
