    COPA
COPA is a founding member of the International Council of Aircraft Owner and Pilot Associations (IAOPA) www.iopa.org that, since 1962, has been promoting travel by General Aviation aircraft world-wide. IAOPA is the only organization that is permitted to represent General Aviation at the International Civil Aviation Organization, headquartered in Montreal, where many of the rules that we are subject to get their start. COPA is fortunate that we are very close to the action at ICAO because our Quebec Director, Frank Hofmann, is also IAOPA's representative at ICAO.

In addition to being GA's watchdog at ICAO, IAOPA's 71 affiliate organizations around the world work together to help each other manage GA, using successes and experience to build and defend GA. The website is also a great way to find information about flying in one of the affiliate countries in case you are considering a flying vacation. Simply contact an affiliate or go to their website www.iaopa.org/map-continents.cfm

IAOPA eNews provides a summary of IAOPA activities and news from its affiliates. Archives can be found at www.iaopa.org/news/enews-archive.html

eNews will now be a regular monthly addition to eFlight.

Aircraft Financing Trends in Canada — General Aviation
    Travelers Aircraft Finance
Travelers Aircraft Finance was formed in 2010 to address the lack of financing options available in Canada in the General Aviation sector. Our GA financing portfolio continues to grow at a reasonable pace largely due to the US dollar and higher inventory levels this has created an incredible opportunity to make a smart buy. The Canadian economy by and large has not been as negatively affected as compared to our neighbors to the south. We are seeing a general trend of shrinking inventory as there continues to be a lack of high quality, used GA aircraft in Canada. In summary, the Canadian market is down, but not out and is well poised for recovery. If there was ever a time to acquire an aircraft, the time is now.

Boeing 787 takes off on another test flight, not key battery certification trip
    Times Colonist
Boeing has conducted another test flight of its 787 passenger jet over the West Coast. The company said the recent flight was designed to test system upgrades and not to check operation of the plane's batteries. Airlines have 50 of the planes, which Boeing calls the Dreamliner. But they're still grounded after two of them overheated in January. Boeing is trying to assure regulators that after some design changes, the batteries are safe. Boeing expects to make at least one battery-test flight.

Buffalo aircraft a veteran of D-Day
    The HayRiver Hub
There is a plane that lands at the Hay River airport on a regular basis that looks like it could have been built 10 or 15 years ago, its shiny paint glistening in the afternoon light. Part of Buffalo Airways' World War II-era aircraft fleet, the DC-3 C-GWZS is unique because it managed to evade anti-aircraft guns and other artillery on June 6, 1944, the day Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy, France.

Airline industry faces evolving needs, new costs to maintain safety
    Canada.com
The quiet in the cockpit of Air Canada flight 123, flying at 3,000 feet, is broken suddenly by a commanding, automated voice warning: "Traffic, traffic." The pilot of the Airbus A320 responds to the aircraft's Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) by disconnecting the autopilot and taking control of the plane. She peers out to see if she can see another jet in the partly cloudy morning sky.

Alberta Aviation Museum gets extra special delivery from Holland
    Edmonton Journal
Thomas Hinderks felt like a kid at Christmas when two shipping containers delivered pieces of a CF-104 D Starfighter aircraft to the Alberta Aviation Museum. After waiting almost 18 months to acquire the Cold War-era plane from the Netherlands, the museum's executive director didn't hesitate to sling himself up six feet into one of the two cockpits of his new big-kid toy.
