Minister's response on Waterville airport closure falls short
By Kevin Psutka, COPA president and CEO
The minister's letter, distancing the province from aviation, is no surprise. The National Airports Policy is achieving its goal — to reduce the number of airports in Canada. "Much of the Canadian transportation system is overbuilt: 94 per cent of all air passengers and cargo use only 26 of 726 airports" and "Each community will be in a position to determine the future role of its airport."

Canadian government stalling on battling aviation fatigue
    24 Hours
Canada is stalling when it comes to preventing exhausted pilots from flying, says a veteran airline captain. Concerns around pilot fatigue have been raised for years, but the federal government still falls behind other countries in allowing pilots to fly long hours, according to the Canadian board president of the Air Line Pilots Association International. "Right now, Canada has some of the most lax rules in world," said Capt. Dan Adamus, who has 30 years of experience.

Bell Helicopter coast guard deal: 5 things to know
    CBC News
Canada's aging fleet of coast guard helicopters is being replaced by a newer, larger and faster model of chopper capable of hauling heavier loads. The Conservative government awarded the up to $172-million contract on Monday to Texas-based rotorcraft manufacturer Bell Helicopter, which will begin delivering 15 light-twin class helicopters next year. The deal was a sole-source contract, meaning there were no other bidders for supplying the coast guard with new helicopters. That didn't mean there weren't other manufacturers who had expressed interest.

    Where hybrid aircraft fit
    AVweb
According to author Paul Bertorelli: I was looking through the archives the other day to see when we did our first serious coverage of electric aircraft. It was 2009 — five years ago this summer. We imagined then that production versions would be trickling to market in a few years. They aren't. But that's not to say there's not interesting progress being made in electrics and especially hybrid drive for aircraft.

Birth of aviation takes flight in Goldstone's 'Birdmen'
    USA TODAY
According to author Ray Locker: We take it for granted that Wilbur and Orville Wright, two bicycle-making brothers from Dayton, Ohio, flew the first airplane and pioneered the development of aviation. Their names adorn an Air Force base in their hometown; North Carolina's license plates brag about the brothers' feat on the sands of the state's Outer Banks.
