Infrastructure projects getting $150 million boost announced by Stephen Harper
CBC News
The $150 million pegged for infrastructure in last month's federal budget will go toward 1,800 projects in communities across Canada, the prime minister says. Stephen Harper made the announcement during a campaign-style event in Truro, N.S. "Selected" projects are expected to be completed by the end of the 2017 construction season, according to a statement. Harper said the projects will be delivered through regional development agencies.

Fredericton highway roundabout construction set to begin in June
CBC News
Fredericton motorists are bracing for one of the biggest road construction projects the city has seen in years, the Highway 8 roundabout. The project has been in the works for more than three years, but the tender has now been awarded to KDB Engineers/Contractors Inc. and construction is scheduled to begin soon. It is expected to be completed and open by mid-September.

Residential construction faces a labour crunch

Canada's residential construction industry is not immune to a looming retirement situation, with more than 129,000 new skilled workers needed over the next decade. This was one of the findings presented in the first-ever residential construction labour market information report released by BuildForce Canada in collaboration with the Canadian Home Builders' Association (CHBA).

U.S.-Canada bridge to cost $2.1 billion
Product Design and Development
A planned $2.1 billion bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, will be named after hockey great Gordie Howe. Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper made the announcement Thursday in Windsor. The 87-year-old Howe, known as "Mr. Hockey," was born in Floral, Saskatchewan, and led the Detroit Red Wings to four Stanley Cup championships.

WSP Global chief executive Pierre Shoiry says that when he presents the company's strategy for the next three years at the shareholders meeting, it's going to look a lot like the plan set out in 2012. "It's going to be much more of the same," said Shoiry at the engineering consulting firm's headquarters in Montreal.
