CSCE welcomes a new President!
CSCE
Tony Bégin, Senior Director of Integrated Project Delivery at Canam-Buildings, a division of Canam Group, was elected President of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) at the society’s annual general meeting that took place last May 30th in the scope of its annual conference in Regina, Saskatchewan. Mr. Bégin will serve as president for a period of one year.

M. Bégin assumera son nouveau rôle pour une durée d’un an.

Another Successful CSCE Capstone Competition

Twelve teams from across the country travelled to Regina to participate in the 3rd annual CSCE Capstone Competition. Teams presented their final year design project with a poster and two minute presentation. The winner was Polytechnique Montreal.

CSCE Student Paper Competition Winners Honoured in Regina
CSCE
Winners of the CSCE Student Paper Competition were announced at the Student Awards Luncheon at the CSCE Annual Conference in Regina, SK. Local student, Nathan Bruce of the University of Regina took home top honours with his paper titled "User-Updateable Municipal Benchmark Database for the City of Regina."

From oil to algae: Eco-friendly asphalt could be the route to greener roads

The process of surfacing a road isn't complicated. Layers of asphalt, which is composed mostly of bitumen (a byproduct of crude oil distillation), are poured over an aggregate of crushed stone and sand; the asphalt acts as a glue, binding the mixture together to form asphalt concrete.

Ontario's K2 wind power project begins operations

Following 18 months of construction, one of Canada’s largest wind projects has reached commercial operation. The K2 Wind Power Facility, owned and operated by Capital Power Corporation and Capital Power LP, Samsung Renewable Energy Inc. and Pattern Energy Group LP was ready to produce power at the end of May, 2015.

Toronto condo construction heating up again, housing agency says

Condo construction jumped to a two and-a-half-year high in May, the country's housing agency said Monday. The number of home starts nationally accelerated last month to a seasonally adjusted rate of 201,705 units from 183,329 in April.
