Another Successful CSCE Capstone Competition
CSCE
Twelve teams from across the country travelled to Regina to participate in the 3rd annual CSCE Capstone Competition. Teams presented their final year design project with a poster and two minute presentation. The winner was Polytechnique Montreal.

Un autre Concours Capstone réussi

Le troisième concours annuel Capstone de la SCGC eut lieu le 31 mai 2015 au Congrès annuel de la SCGC à Régina. Des équipes de 12 écoles différentes de partout au pays y ont participé et ont présenté leurs projets de conception de dernière année avec une affiche et une presentation de deux minutes. Les juges venant de l'industrie furent très impressionnés par le niveau de professionnalisme et les connaissances de toutes les équipes et ont du mal à sélectionner les lauréats.

CSCE Student Paper Competition Winners Honoured in Regina
CSCE
Winners of the CSCE Student Paper Competition were announced at the Student Awards Luncheon at the CSCE Annual Conference in Regina, SK. Local student, Nathan Bruce of the University of Regina took home top honours with his paper titled "User-Updateable Municipal Benchmark Database for the City of Regina."

Le Concours de la communication étudiante de la SCGC de cette année s’est déroulée à Regina, Saskatchewan durant le congrès annuel de la SCGC. Parmi les centaines de communications présentées au congrès, 27 faisaient partie du concours étudiant. Les participants, du premier et du deuxième cycles, venaient de partout au Canada. Using recycled plastic to build roads? The Dutch did it!

Roads in the Netherlands may soon be built using recycled plastic instead of asphalt. A company by the name of VolkerWessels claims a "PlasticRoad" has marginal maintenance costs and lasts about three times longer than conventional paved roads.

Why Quebec shuts down for 2-week Construction Holiday

To those visiting the province, it may seem like construction sites across Quebec have been abandoned this week, leaving only the ubiquitous orange cones to guard half-finished road projects. This is, however, just a yearly tradition in the province and workers will be back on the job in a couple of weeks, following the province’s unique government-mandated Construction Holiday that essentially shuts down the entire industry between July 19 and August 2.

Turcot tannery discovery halts construction project

Transport Quebec has temporarily suspended construction work at the Turcot Yards after the foundations of the 18th century Village des Tanneries was discovered. Parts of the foundation were first discovered in the spring, though the archaeological excavation began more recently. Various artefacts, including animal bones, bottles and teacups were discovered wi6thin the foundations.
