Another Successful CSCE Capstone Competition

Twelve teams from across the country travelled to Regina to participate in the 3rd annual CSCE Capstone Competition. Teams presented their final year design project with a poster and two minute presentation. The winner was Polytechnique Montreal.

Un autre Concours Capstone réussi
SCGC
Le troisième concours annuel Capstone de la SCGC eut lieu le 31 mai 2015 au Congrès annuel de la SCGC à Régina. Des équipes de 12 écoles différentes de partout au pays y ont participé et ont présenté leurs projets de conception de dernière année avec une affiche et une presentation de deux minutes. Les juges venant de l'industrie furent très impressionnés par le niveau de professionnalisme et les connaissances de toutes les équipes et ont du mal à sélectionner les lauréats.

The CSCE President's Award recognizes excellence among Student Chapters. This year, the Student Affairs Committee reviewed 22 applications and decided that the University of British Columbia was the best student chapter for the past school year. Click "Read More" to see the other winners.

CSCE Student Paper Competition Winners Honoured in Regina
CSCE
Winners of the CSCE Student Paper Competition were announced at the Student Awards Luncheon at the CSCE Annual Conference in Regina, SK. Local student, Nathan Bruce of the University of Regina took home top honours with his paper titled "User-Updateable Municipal Benchmark Database for the City of Regina."

To fix Canada's infrastructure, billions are just drops in the bucket

There's an old saying in government: a billion here, a billion there and pretty soon you're talking real money. When it comes to Canada infrastructure needs, some say a billion is a mere drop in the bucket. The Federation of Canadian Municipalities, which represents Canadian mayors, estimates the country has fallen behind in infrastructure spending by $123 billion since the 1950s. In some years, it would argue, there hasn't been enough invested to maintain what already exists, let alone build for the future.

A civil engineer talks rebuilding NOLA 10 years after Hurricane Katrina

After Hurricane Katrina left the city of New Orleans underwater in August 2005, Iam Tucker knew that she had to do something to help. The New Orleans native applied to the Baton Rouge Police Department to aid in the recovery of the city, but she moved back home in 2008 to take over her father’s position as president and CEO of Integrated Logistical Support, Inc., a New Orleans engineering firm whose mission is to strengthen and the city’s infrastructure, after he announced that he was retiring.
