Travelling to Hong Kong?
The CSCE is looking for volunteers to make technical presentations to
members of the CSCE Hong Kong Branch and (or) the Hong Kong Institution
of Engineers (HKIE). This is strictly on a volunteer basis, with no
payment for spent time or travel expenses. If interested, please send an
outline of your presentation and brief resume at least three months in
advance of your trip to Doug Salloum, CSCE Executive Director, or Brian Burrell, CSCE VP-International.

Second engineering degree accredited at Conestoga College
A second engineering degree program at Conestoga College has received accreditation from Engineers Canada, the college announced. Conestoga College's electronic systems engineering degree received a seal of approval from the body representing Canada's licensed engineers, which will allow graduates of the four-year program to become licensed engineers.
Samsung's engineering and shipbuilding firms to merge
Samsung Heavy Industries will absorb Samsung Engineering for about $2.5bn, the latest step in a restructuring at South Korea's largest conglomerate that has grown since the controlling Lee family's patriarch was hospitalized in May. Investors are closely watching how control of the group will be transferred to heir apparent Jay Y Lee and his two sisters.

Engineer", Canada's only magazine dedicated exclusively to Civil
Engineering. Did you know that you can also take part in events held by
the local section in your city? Get in touch and network with both
students and engineering professionals in your area. You can find the
list of CSCE sections from the "Sections & Regions" tab on http://csce.ca.

CH2MHill Foundation and not-for-profit Bridges to Prosperity build pedestrian suspension bridge in rural Panama
More than 200 residents of the villages of La Conga and La Florida, Panama now have a safe and efficient crossing that provides access to schools, health clinics, markets and jobs. The CH2M HILL Foundation and the not-for-profit organization Bridges to Prosperity partnered to build a 45-meter pedestrian suspension bridge over the Rio Trinidad connecting these two rural communities. The resulting impact:
Reg Andres: Premiers Council of the Federation

Federation meeting on infrastructure on August 6. Please see the

Infrastructure projects are no miracle cure for growth in Europe
Several leading politicians are campaigning for a big boost in public infrastructure spending as a means to kickstart economic growth and fight unemployment. Such a project is attractive for various reasons but it is not a miracle cure and could even do more harm than good if not well-managed.

Heavy construction association launches infrastructure campaign

The Manitoba Heavy Construction Association has a message for the civic election — Fix My Infrastructure.
The organization, which represents the 400 Manitoba companies that build roads, sewers and other infrastructure, want mayors in both Winnipeg and Brandon to realize fixing infrastructure helps the economy.
