Travelling to Hong Kong?
The CSCE is looking for volunteers to make technical presentations to
members of the CSCE Hong Kong Branch and (or) the Hong Kong Institution
of Engineers (HKIE). This is strictly on a volunteer basis, with no
payment for spent time or travel expenses. If interested, please send an
outline of your presentation and brief resume at least three months in
advance of your trip to Doug Salloum, CSCE Executive Director, or Brian Burrell, CSCE VP-International.

Water-main breaks are sign of old infrastructure
Hamilton was hit with at least three water-main breaks recently as its aging pipes continue to deteriorate after a harsh winter.
Dan McKinnon, director of water and wastewater operations, said all of the breaks that occurred Tuesday were small. But he warned there will be more problems with the aging system in the future.
Catholic schools hook up to earthquake warning system
A new earthquake early-warning system is being installed for local Catholic schools, and may eventually go provincewide. Variations of the system have been successfully used in Japan, Taiwan and the United States.
Second engineering degree accredited at Conestoga College
A second engineering degree program at Conestoga College has received accreditation from Engineers Canada, the college announced. Conestoga College's electronic systems engineering degree received a seal of approval from the body representing Canada's licensed engineers, which will allow graduates of the four-year program to become licensed engineers.

the local section in your city? Get in touch and network with both
students and engineering professionals in your area. You can find the

Ontario launching green bonds to fund infrastructure projects
Government of Ontario
Ontario is launching a green bond program in the coming weeks, making it the first government in Canada to issue green bonds.
The Eglinton Crosstown LRT has been selected as the green project that will receive funding from the inaugural issue, which is expected to be up to $500 million in size.
Summers urges 'major' spending plan to fix U.S. infrastructure
Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers called for a "major" plan to boost the country's economic growth and said borrowing to fix aging infrastructure would help lower the jobless rate.
G20's global infrastructure hub to raise investments
Underlining the criticality of investment to boosting demand and growth worldwide, the G20 finance ministers' summit agreed to set up a global infrastructure initiative to increase "quality investment," with special emphasis on infrastructure.
