Two decades of DBIA...
DBIA    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
On Jan. 10, 2002, the first meeting of the DBIA Designation Committee was held in San Antonio, Texas. The precursor of today's Design-Build Certification Board, the Designation Committee began to lay the groundwork for the Designated Design-Build Professional program. Throughout the previous year the board discussed development of the program. By April of 2002, the new Designation Program has 67 chartered designees, 35 of whom attended the first Designation Dinner in Washington, DC, that spring. At that time the National Board learned that "Both public and private sector owners are calling and asking how to get their people designated."

Today, the program has established an accepted and recognized standard of design-build knowledge and experience. The Design-Build Certification Board certifies owners, design and construction practitioners as well as other professionals working in the design-build arena. Coursework and testing is regularly evaluated and changed to reflect current industry best practices. In 2013, nearly 2000 individuals proudly display DBIA™ or Assoc. DBIA™ as a credential, demonstrating their expertise and understanding of best-practices in every phase of design-build project delivery, from proposal preparation to substantial completion.

Miami-Dade County    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Miami Dade Water and Sewer Department announces an upcoming design-build project to replace the existing 54-inch force main from the Virginia Key Central District Wastewater Treatment Plant under Biscayne Bay Norris Cut to Fisher Island. The FM, constructed in 1977 with pre-stressed concrete cylindrical pipe, was subjected to a condition assessment in 2012 that identified numerous pipe segments with distressed pre-stressed bands. This FM is a portion of the sole pipeline that collects raw sewage from Miami Beach and Northern municipalities and transmits it to the CDWWTP for treatment. Therefore, the pipe must remain in continuous operation during this replacement project. More

In order for you to receive the information so vital to our membership, we need to have your current (and correct) contact information. If you've moved, been promoted or had any other change in this information, let us know - check your member profile online by logging into the DBIA website and making any changes. If you have a problem, or need your login information, contact the Membership Department at or call 202-682-0110.

Do you know about all your member benefits?
DBIA    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
As a member, you're probably aware of the information we send out - this e-newsletter is one source and our journal, Integration Quarterly, another. One of these is access to epipeline - a source of information on upcoming government contracts. Contact Sean Campbell at epipeline, for information on accessing this information.

Also, if you're an Industry Partner member contact, you can nominate one owner for a free one-year individual membership. They'll receive all the benefits of DBIA membership - it's a good way to encourage an owner who already appreciates the benefits of design-build or educate one who's still undecided. And, for owners you'd like to encourage or educate or provide a networking opportunity, DBIA conferences offer some owners a scholarship to help them defray the costs of attending one of the conferences we offer every year.
