DBIA-Mid-America Region Expands
To meet the growing interest in design-build in southern Missouri, the Mid-America Region has formed a new Ozarks Chapter. Dave Roling, area manager with Emery Sapp & Sons, will serve as president of the new Chapter.
Did You Know? We Know Where You Can Use Design-Build
DBIA members have access to our updated State Statute Report (SSR), a valuable tool that details design-build laws throughout the United States. The SSR guides owners, practitioners and industry professionals in their project delivery decision making by providing detailed information on design-build laws and requirements in each state.
The majority of states now allow design-build for almost any project, but the SSR can tell you what kinds of limitations are in place or which agencies have full authority and which have limited authority. Our popular maps give you a quick view of which states allow design-build, but the SSR gives the specific details both owners and practitioners will want to know before considering a design-build project.
The report is updated regularly and is available on the State Advocacy section of our website, click here to view.
CBO: Six-Year Transit Bill Would Cost $100 Billion More
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) is forecasting that the six-year transportation bill would require almost $100 billion in new revenue to maintain current levels of federal road and transit spending. The current surface transportation bill, which included about $54 billion in infrastructure spending per year, is scheduled to expire in September. The measure was funded in part by $35 billion per year that is generated by the 18.4-cents-per-gallon federal gas tax, which has traditionally been the main source Congress uses to pay for transportation projects.

Land Purchase Moves Forward in Cass County, Neb.
Near closing on Nebraska county roads shop land purchase. The Cass County Board of Commissioners also took the first steps in choosing “design build” for the construction process. All roads shop related items passed unanimously. The Cassgram reports the county is buying 15.63 acres southwest of the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway 1 for a new roads shop maintenance facility and office complex. Resolution 2014-03 stated the purchase amount of $300,000 will come from the Inheritance Tax fund and that an appraisal of the property was obtained.
BIM Plays Pivotal Role in Europe's Biggest Rail Project
The development of London's new high-frequency underground railway line embodies the many benefits that BIM can bring to the process of design, engineering and construction. The 118-kilometer line is currently the largest railway and infrastructure project in Europe and will entail the construction of 42 kilometers of new tunnels in the greater London area.
