Florida's Gandy Boulevard widening fast tracked
Due to recent bid savings statewide, the Florida Department of Transportation has announced the advancement of the Gandy Boulevard widening project from west of 9th Street to east of 4th St. According to a FDOT news release, this Design Build contract will start later this year. In a Design Build approach, the designer and the construction contractor work together on the same team so the project gets built faster and takes advantage of innovation in the design to save construction costs. The F-35 Flight Simulator project, which recently broke ground at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, celebrated this project milestone with an anything but ordinary ceremony. In lieu of the traditional gold painted shovel General Contractor Swinerton Builders Government provided a backhoe for the first dig to Brigadier General David J. Buck, Vice Commander USAF Warfare Center. Colorado Dept. of Transportation selects Ames/Granite as design-build contractor for US 36 Express Lanes project

The Colorado Department of Transportation announced its selection of the Ames/Granite Joint Venture team as the design-build contractor for the US 36 Express Lanes project. The $310 million project is led by CDOT, the Colorado High Performance Transportation Enterprise, and the Regional Transportation District. It will reconstruct the existing US 36 pavement and widen the highway to add one express lane in each direction. It also includes other transportation improvements from Federal Boulevard to past the Interlocken Loop interchange along US 36. More
