Funding for I-64 bridge, Page Extension phase 3 may fall into place
Funding to replace the Daniel Boone Bridge on Interstate 64 and Highway 40 over the Missouri River likely will be approved for final funding soon, according to an East-West Gateway Council of Governments official. "That project is in our Transportation Improvement Plan funding and MoDOT (Missouri Department of Transportation) has included it in their Transportation Improvement Plan," said Jim Wild, senior manager for planning and programming at East-West Gateway. Braintree High School in Quincy, Mass., to seek change for construction of pool and rink at high school

The town is seeking passage of special legislation for the construction of a skating rink and indoor pool at Braintree High School in Quincy, Mass. Peter Morin, chief of staff for Mayor Joseph Sullivan, said the town wants to seek proposals from potential operators under a "design-build" option. The other approach would be for the town to pay to design the facility for the operator to build, he said. More

Senators seek smaller, targeted transport bill

Transportation interests are praising bipartisan efforts in the Senate to craft a new surface transport bill even though the measure is only about two-thirds the size of what President Obama proposed. Janet Kavinoky, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's top transportation lobbyist, calls the talks by leaders of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee "significant progress" toward a new a bill, especially their plan to maintain current funding. A bipartisan group of four key senators has reached agreement on the outline of a six-year, $339.2-billion surface transportation measure. The deal was announced on May 25 by Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairman Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., along with the committee's ranking Republican, James Inhofe, R-Okla., transportation and infrastructure subcommittee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., and the subcommittee's ranking Republican, David Vitter, R-La. Sale of bonds for transportation projects closed
The Commonwealth Transportation Board has closed the sale of the $600 million of Commonwealth of Virginia Transportation Capital Projects Revenue Bonds sold May 11 to advance transportation projects managed by the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation. The Commonwealth received seven highly competitive bids from underwriters. The winning bid was from Wells Fargo Bank with a true interest cost of 4.025 percent. The $600 million issue of bonds sold at a premium, netting the Commonwealth $647.7 million. More
