DBIA milestone: Design-Build University
There are few things more detrimental to the expanded use of design-build than someone unfamiliar with the process trying to complete a design-build project. This is why DBIA teaches best practices and works to get people certified to use design-build. In 2009, DBIA instructor and university professor Barbara Jackson realized that the best way to ensure design-build projects were done right in the future was to bring our courses into colleges and universities. Thus, DBIA's University Program was born.

Las Vegas' Project NEON approved as a public-private partnership
The Nevada Department of Transportation announced that the seven-member State Transportation Board unanimously approved advancing Project NEON as a public-private partnership (P3) arrangement under which a private developer will be selected to design, build, finance, operate and maintain (DBFOM) an improved Interstate 15 (I-15) facility for up to 35 years after completion of construction of Project NEON.

Parsons JV wins SFO T1 redevelopment program management contract

Parsons announced that the City and County of San Francisco Airport Commission has awarded T1 Partners, a joint venture in which Parsons is the managing partner, a contract to provide program management services for the Terminal 1 Redevelopment Program at San Francisco International Airport. Under the 10-year program, T1 Partners will deliver program management, planning, design management, and construction support services.

Specializing in integrated project delivery methods such as design-build, Southland will now also offer its engineering and construction services independently.
Missouri DOT, Clarkson, HNTB prepare for massive Manchester bridge replacement project

It will be months before the design is completed for a new Manchester Bridge on Interstate 70. But officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation and the contractors for the project say commuters will appreciate one key element.

Daytona speedway starts $400 million project in Florida
One of the largest construction projects now underway in Central Florida is a $400 million redevelopment of the mile-long grandstand at Daytona International Speedway. The design-build team of Barton Malow Co. and the Rossetti architecture firm, both based in Michigan, will oversee the project. Scheduled for completion in January 2016, the work will be done in phases. Eventually the grandstands on the back straightaway, or "superstretch" portion, of the 2.5-mile speedway will be removed and all seating will be on the front side.
