County Road 14 project is on a fast track in Minneapolis

Using a design-build method means that a project that would otherwise inflict four to five years of traffic disruption should be completed well before the end of next year's construction season. Minneapolis' Anoka County Road 14 headache has begun, but officials hope it won't last too long. Construction on the $35 million project was to start soon along the 3.5 mile stretch of road west of Hwy. 65 in Blaine and east of Hanson Boulevard in Coon Rapids. It is expected to be completed in August of next year. More
Missouri approves funding for new Daniel Boone Bridge span

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has approved funding for a new Daniel Boone Bridge span. The commission approved $120 million for the new bridge as part of the 2012-17 State Transportation Improvement Plan during its monthly meeting recently. The Daniel Boone Bridge carries Highway 40 over the Missouri River between St. Louis and St. Charles counties. More
Work on widening of US 27 in Garrard County in Kentucky about 65 percent done

Nearly four years after state and local officials broke ground on the project in September 2007, work continues on the widening of a five-mile section of U.S. 27 in northern Garrard County in Kentucky. Heavy equipment rumbles near Bryantsville as the two-lane road is widened to four lanes from Rocky Top to just south of Ky. 34. Construction costs amount to about $39 million of the $56 million project. More
Parsons secures new contract in Pasadena, Calif.

Parsons Corp. has been selected by International Isotopes Inc., a manufacturer of nuclear medicine products, as the prime contractor for the design-build of the planned depleted uranium deconversion facility in Lea County, N.M. The contract is intended to engage the Parsons team, which includes Merrick and Company, Burns and Roe Enterprises Inc., and Baker Concrete Construction, for a complete "turnkey" scope of work. More
Caltrans awards design-build contract to Granite Construction

The first of 10 projects of Caltrans' mandated Design-Build Demonstration Program - the State Highway 99 Chowchilla Rehabilitation Project in Madera Co. in California - was awarded recently to Granite Construction Co. Construction on the $37 million project is planned to begin this month and is estimated for completion by December 2012. The project will repair nearly 4 mi of Highway 99 in both directions in Chowchilla from the South Madera Overcrossing to the Avenue 16 Overcrossing. Existing guardrail, lights, signs, and drainage systems within the project limits will also be upgraded or repaired, as needed. More
