Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) releases revised contract documents

DBIA introduced a family of standard contract document forms over a decade ago. Since then, the number of owners relying on the design-build project delivery method has increased exponentially. In the process, design-build team members have gained expertise and case law has evolved to address issues unique to design-build. In response, DBIA has released the next generation of contracts that address these issues and incorporate industry advances of the past decade. More

Alderney, UK seeks marina developer for Braye Harbour

The States of Alderney, has started its search for a partner to design, build, finance and operate the new marina at Braye Harbour located in Alderney, Channel Islands, U.K. It said it hoped the new facility would bring tourists to the island, while allowing current operations to continue and providing private moorings. The plan is to include the possibility of future ferries to and from the UK. Expressions of interest need to be put to the States before the end of August. More

Seattle City Council moves ahead on tunnel but withholds final action

Seattle City Council said they will withhold final action endorsing agreements with the state on construction terms for the deep bore tunnel but that it will pass a resolution in support of the project. In discussions with the City Council recently City Attorney Peter Holmes said city and state negotiators agreed to this approach after analysis showed near impossibility of enforcing the current wording in state tunnel legislation regarding potential additional costs. This has been central to the Mayor's argument that the city should not be held responsible for cost overruns. More
