Virginia governor forms task force to identify cost cutting best practices in state government

Gov. Bob McDonnell is establishing an Operational Review Task Force to look for cost cutting best practices in Virginia's operational costs. This Task Force was formed as a result of a recommendation by the Commission and will be chaired by Special Advisor to the Commission Bill Leighty, chief of staff to former Govs. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine. The Task Force will evaluate 12 areas of government to identify potential savings in operational costs and recommend strategies for realizing those savings. More

Balfour Beatty | McCarthy awarded the Fort Hood Replacement Hospital project

On Sept. 10, 2010, the Balfour Beatty | McCarthy joint venture, with HKS Architects and Wingler & Sharp as design partners, was selected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide design-build services for the Fort Hood Replacement Hospital project at Fort Hood, Texas. The 944,000-square-foot facility will replace the existing 45-year-old Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and provide a new state-of-the-art health care facility for our Service Members and their Families. More

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 27, on the new, Christopher S. Bond Bridge in Missouri, Sen. Kit Bond and Missouri Department of Transportation Interim Director Kevin Keith announced that all Interstate 29/35 lanes and ramps on the kcICON Project would be open by the end of the year — six months ahead of schedule. The contractor, Paseo Corridor Constructors, will complete cross street work, incidental construction and the removal of the Paseo Bridge in 2011. Thanking the nearly 700 event attendees, Keith stated MoDOT's design-build method of project delivery is a great way to accelerate large construction projects. More

91 Freeway widening in Riverside on track; project to bring thousands of jobs to California

A bill to speed up preparations for a Riverside (91) Freeway widening project was signed into law, clearing the way for work to start and "thousands of jobs" to be created, a Riverside County, Calif., transit official said today. Assembly Bill 2098, which Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed recently, allows the Riverside County Transportation Commission to utilize the "design-build" process for the 91 Corridor Improvement Project. More
