Gov. Bob McDonnell announced that the commonwealth has selected U.S. 460 Mobility Partners to finance, design and build a new 55-mile stretch of Route 460 in southeastern Virginia. The selection was made after a two-year procurement process involving detailed review and evaluation of private-sector proposals. Construction will be financed through a combination of public dollars and tolls. The existing Route 460 remains free. More

A team of St. Catharines city staff and councilors examining proposals to design and build the new spectator facility is recommending the job go to Ball/Rankin Construction for $45 million. Unlike traditional projects where interested firms submit a bid based on a predetermined design, in design-build proposals proponents submit their own designs to meet the project's budget. Deciding on a recommended proponent requires a detailed evaluation of each bid and interviews with each proponent. More

The District has selected a trio of East Coast firms to design and construct the St. Elizabeths East Gateway Pavilion, a cultural and market center that will serve as the "interim heart" for the D.C.-owned campus. The pavilion design proposed by Davis Brody Bond LLP, Robert Silman Associates PC and Kadcon Corp., all three of either New York or D.C., features casual dining options, a farmers' market, cultural and arts space. Fredericksburg, Va.-based Lifecycle Construction Services Inc. has received a contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers worth up to $100 million. The contract is for design-build and general construction services at multiple military installations in North Carolina, primarily Fort Bragg. More
