Online courses experiment with digital badges
U.S. News & World Report
When 48-year-old Reginald Nichols of Reading, Massachusetts, took a free massive open online course in leadership last year, he wasn't expecting to earn credit for a certificate or degree. Instead, after turning in several assignments and receiving positive peer reviews from other students, he earned what looked like an image of a badge — a blue one with a green border and, written across the bottom, the name of the course and the year: LeaderMOOC 2013. It indicates his successful completion of the program, offered by the Center for Creative Leadership, a nonprofit specializing in executive education.

The microlearning trend: Accommodating cultural and cognitive shifts
Learning Solution Magazine
You hear it all the time: the millennials are hitting the workforce en masse and they can't focus, can't put their phones down, and they have "the attention span of goldfish" (quite literally — Dianne Dukette, MD and David Cornish, MD, doctors at Kaiser Permanente, claim that the continuous human attention span may be as short as eight seconds, while a goldfish seems to have some of us beat at nine). As digital natives fight these stereotypes, it turns out the observations might not be too far off. Attention spans are changing. It's just not as generational as we might think.

Don't waste your time with face-to-face training
Training Zone
If you want to achieve maximum effectiveness from your face-to-face training interventions, and deliver real value for money, you need to ensure that any time spent in the classroom isn't wasted. Formal learning interventions often have three goals: to instill knowledge (to tell people new things), to develop specific skills (to change their behavior) and to help people to practice applying their learning. If your face-to-face sessions are trying to achieve all three of these goals, you could save time and costs by creating a different blend.

9 tips to improve online learners' engagement
eLearning Industry
The most online learners do not have a teacher at their place to explain things to them. Online learners cannot raise their questions before a teacher who can promptly provide answers to them. So, they do face difficulty in understanding things clearly while receiving education through online learning courses. Their problem magnifies even more when teachers and professionals designing online courses do not give due attention to making things simple for them. As a result, online learners get to see too much of text, images, links and graphics in their online course matter and they do not know on which online learning elements they should focus upon.

Selecting the right assessment type
Administrate
At the end of any course or training sessions, it's typical to make your students complete some sort of assessment. It's important way to make sure they have a good understanding of the course material, and have met the outlined requirements to complete the training and achieve a pass mark. However, not all types of assessment work for every type of course. Some training may require more formal forms of assessment, such as an essay or exam, while others may assess students on work they complete throughout the course. It's important to make sure you pick the correct type of assessment for the material you are teaching, as this will ensure you are testing your students accurately.
