From March 26: AS part of the latest wave of online learning platforms, Massive Online Open Courses have gone viral. They can be useful for certain students, although those interested in changing or enhancing their careers should consider their more intensive sister, distance learning. A Mooc is a mostly free, open course that nearly anyone can apply for and "attend" online. While there may be readings and lectures, students are generally not graded by a professor the way they would be in a traditional college course. You may often come and go as you please.

Workforce of the future? Bipartisan bill would overhaul job training.

From June 4: The nation's workforce development system would receive a long-awaited overhaul under a bipartisan bill announced Wednesday by key committee leaders in both houses of Congress. The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act is the result of months of negotiations. It would finally reauthorize — for the next five years — a law passed in 1998 that has been getting by with year-to-year appropriations since it was originally due for reauthorization in 2003.

Mobile learning trends in developing economies

From July 16: In 2012, the International Telecommunication Union published a report which stated that 90 percent of the world's population has access to cellular networks. Combined with over 6.5 billion mobile phone users, the ratio of phones-to-individuals is fast reaching 1:1, indicating that, despite often a lack of basic utilities like running water or access to electricity, many still have a mobile phone. In Europe and Central Asia, populations in the high income bracket see almost 1.5 mobile phones for every person; whereas, in Sub-Saharan Africa just over 50 percent of the population has a mobile phone. With such importance placed on this device, it's no wonder it is being highlighted as an excellent tool for increasing education and quality of life in developing nations.

Millennials: How are we preparing to become leaders?

From Dec. 3: According to Wikipedia, if you were born between the 1981 and the 1996, you will be identified as a Millennial. With the exception of a few who are still in college and a small group that already got into leadership roles, most of you (or I should say us, considering that I’m myself in my late 20s) are now situated in the earlier stages of our careers. However, within 15-20 years the majority of the so called "Millennial Generation" will be in the position of leading people and organizations.
