The Wall Street Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
You've made a resolution for 2013 to get back to the gym, but Nick Olsen, a New York interior designer, has resolved to use more purple and yellow. "I'm gravitating toward them specifically," he said. "They feel more fresh, and cheerful." Olsen also sees more peach-colored mirror in his future. With a bright new year ahead, decorators and designers make their resolutions, like the rest of us. More

Entering a Gross Margin Instead of a Mark-up Percentage
Interior Design Pro    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

I am seeing many interior design firms preferring to enter a gross margin percentage into the mark-up fields in Studio Designer or Studio Webware. More

Kelly Wearstler Designs a Bold Bel Air Home
Architectural Digest    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
To hire Los Angeles designer Kelly Wearstler is to buy into her singularly bedazzling, high-chroma style. It's an identity that extends across her interiors, furnishing collections, lines of apparel and accessories, books, and television appearances — for which she always dresses to impress. Wall Art Gone Wild
The Wall Street Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
This wallpaper doesn't belong in Grandma's bathroom. Looking beyond the limits of picture frames, contemporary artists are going after the whole wall, attacking it with paint, video and their own wallpaper. The floor-to-ceiling works — prevalent at recent international art fairs — convey images ranging from the unsettling (floating eyeballs, writhing snakes, dead flies) to the whimsical (Andy Warhol in drag). The New York Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
There are renovations so ambitious and flawless you can almost see the contractors leaving the property carrying buckets of money. So it is with the home built by Anthony Goicolea in Williamsburg, a Brooklyn, N.Y. neighborhood, on a street in the throes of gentrification. It's striking, if conspicuous, standing a story higher than the row houses it used to be a part of, a dazzling white block with many windows, the architectural equivalent of the cousin who made good and returns to visit his working-class relations.
