James Dean's Manhattan Apartment Is A Far Cry From Today's Celebrity Homes
ELLE Decor
Typically, Hollywood's elite put down their roots in mansions and penthouse apartments that are the epitome of opulence, but in the 1950s, one of cinema's most promising young actors lived a much more modest life than today's celebrities. James Dean moved into a fifth-floor walkup at 19 West 68th Street in 1953, right before he was cast in starring roles in "East of Eden," "Rebel Without A Cause," and "Giant," according to The Selvedge Yard. The studio apartment was miniscule, with just enough room for a bed, built in desk and a hot plate. The young actor didn't even have a private bath, and instead used a communal bathroom in the hallway.

Design Inspiration From Dorothy Draper's Greenbrier Resort
The Wall Street Journal
Why are we limited to just one definition of "midcentury" design? I’m talking, of course, about the modernist one. The era of discreet Scandinavian design. Natural wood furniture. Clean white walls. Think of the sober, reductive offices of today’s fictional midcentury antihero, Don Draper, the ad man of "Mad Men." I'd keep liquor around, too.

Modern Traditional Tops the List of 2015 kitchen trends
By Michael J. Berens
The buzz at this year's Consumer Electronics Show is once again all about the Internet of Things, including a new array of smartphone-operated appliances. But according to designers, aesthetics — not gadgets — is what is on the minds of consumers looking to upgrade or renovate their kitchens in 2015. Topping the list is the trend toward "modern traditional," a cross between urban sophistication and country comfort.
