6 Business Mistakes You Should Never Make Twice
Forbes
Alan E. Hall has seen many related mistakes during his 40-plus years as a serial entrepreneur, angel investor and venture capitalist. Like most of us, he's made his fair share of foolish business mistakes along the way. Some even caused the end of a venture. He's watched others make mistakes in their businesses as well, some very visible. Fortunately, Hall learned something powerful and vital from each mistake, no matter the outcome. Big lesson learned: Don't make them again.

Ralph Lauren Brings Bohemian Chic to Home Furnishings
Architectural Digest
The new Left Bank line of furniture and accessories from Ralph Lauren Home was inspired by the rich artistic heritage of that part of Paris — a place the company's founder has come to know well. "Over the years my love for Paris has grown," says Lauren, who in 2010 opened a destination clothing store and restaurant on the boulevard Saint-Germain and was made a Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur by the French government. The collection, featuring an eclectic mix of styles, from rough-hewn 19th-century French silhouettes to the streamlined burnished-metal forms of the early 20th century's Machine Age, embodies "a sense of the artistic ease and creativity that flourished in Paris, particularly on the Left Bank," Lauren says, and conjures "the fantasy of the artist in his romantic garret."

Celebrate Geometry for a Sharp-Looking Design
Houzz
Geometric design is not ornate and filled with flourish — it's straightforward and hard edged and crisp. It was popular in the '50s and '60s, and like all things midcentury, it has made a major comeback. But it's not all space age modernism. Many geometric patterns are rooted in traditional patterns from around the world. The Greek key pattern is a classic example, as are ikat and simple stripes.

Paint It Black
Dwell
When Hinnerk Ehlers and Katja Winterhalder moved their family to Hamburg, Germany, after seven years abroad in Canada, they knew what they wanted: a supercool, minimal, modernist house. Ehlers and Winterhalder were after lots of light, lots of functionality, and something durable enough for the kids to run around in. Ideally, they'd also get a chance to implement some of the ideas for better everyday living they'd aggregated over the years. Integrating state-of-the-art energy efficiency was nonnegotiable. Everything they found, however, was too old-fashioned, and it was all too expensive.
