A futuristic, technology-driven Los Angeles. The unforgiving world of astronauts and spacecraft. The antebellum South. Glamorous 1970s Manhattan. Long Island's Gold Coast during the Jazz Age. Moviegoers were treated to a wealth of cinematic eye candy this past year. The talented production designers and set decorators who created the celluloid worlds of the films Her, Gravity, 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle, and The Great Gatsby are vying for the Oscar for best production design on Sunday, March 2. And if you’re into Oscar handicapping, here's a tip — all of the films but The Great Gatsby are nominated for Best Picture.

A major cable network is searching for the next stars of a brand new competition show from the Producers of Chopped and Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook Off! Casting is currently underway nationwide.

The network is seeking teams of two – couples, family members, best friends, etc. – who have the PASSION and SKILLS for flipping, renovating, and designing houses. Edgar Allan Poe, Interior Design Critic

In Edgar Allan Poe's short story "Landor's Cottage," the author paints an idealized picture of his own New York Cottage. He describes the building in painstaking — some might even say excruciating — detail, but Poe also devotes a short paragraph to cottage's furnishings. "On the floor was an ingrain carpet, of excellent texture - a white ground, spotted with small circular green figures. At the windows were curtains of snowy white jaconet muslin: they were tolerably full, and hung decisively, perhaps rather formally, in sharp, parallel plaits to the floor - just to the floor. … "

Inconspicuous consumption dominated affluent consumers' buying habits during the recent recession. McMansions, flashy cars and lavish vacation homes were out. Luxury buyers contented themselves with more modest purchases. As the economic recovery has taken hold, however, wealthy consumers have expressed their confidence by returning to big-ticket spending. Sales of large and expensive homes have increased markedly throughout the country in recent months, driven by greater economic stability, attractive pricing and plentiful inventories.
