How to Make Your Own Digital Zine With Flipboard 2.0
The power of Miranda Priestly is now in your hands. The "social news magazine" app Flipboard (free) got the biggest update since its 2010 launch today, introducing a new platform that turns readers into editors. That's right, the self-published zines of the '90s are making their comeback in a new digital format. The app still presents news from Twitter, Facebook, and your favorite websites in a visual, interactive way.

Looking to Boutique Hotels for Home-Decor Inspiration
Minneapolis Star Tribune
We're all about a funky hotel or two, but some of the coziest spots are those with shabby-chic decor — just homey enough to be comforting, while still packing in a lot of style. Shabby-chic hotel design is a study in the art of textural contrasts: vintage leather, velvet furniture, deliberately faded rugs, woods and rich prints all add to the look. And when shabby-chic is done well, the end result is impressively style-conscious, yet more livable than some, shall we say more modern, spots we've visited. So today we're giving a photo tour of our favorite hotels that have the shabby-chic vibe down pat. Get inspired — and get the look.

When House and Garden Become One
Los Angels Times
Architectural Record has published its 2013 Record Houses, the magazine's picks of top residential designs including a concrete beach retreat on the Argentine coast, a New York country escape that's "a cross between a Modernist skyscraper and a treehouse" and a minimalist Japanese house that is the equivalent of architectural haiku.

Jewelry Designer Amanda Keidan: A House That Sparkles
Los Angeles Times
As a designer of custom jewelry, Amanda Keidan sometimes takes delicate vintage pieces and reworks them into intricately sculptured, modern collections. The same could be said for her sunny, art-filled Venice home, where gold accents blend with sparkling glass, and vintage barrel chairs share the living room floor with new Ikea ottomans and a cool lamp bought off the flash sales site Gilt.

Six Different Ways
What are your feelings on pastels in home decor? For adults. Not nurseries! I love a soft baby pink when mixed with light greys, but aside from that color combo, I haven’t thought too much about it. Until today.

Cooking With Color: When to Use White in the Kitchen
Too much white in your kitchen can feel cold, sterile and unwelcoming. You'll see that most of the kitchens below, while predominantly white, also tend to include natural wood in some way — usually in the form of flooring or furniture, which adds warmth, charm and character. White also makes the perfect backdrop for small dashes of bold color.

The Billionaire Whisperer: Meet The Interior Designer Who's Bewitching The A-List
When interior designer Joan Behnke brought Bob and Audrey Byers to Paris, one of their first stops was the Grand Palais. The petite, silver-haired Californian marched her new clients, self-made health care multimillionaires, through the great hall's Monet exhibition, using the painter's work to engage the couple in a larger discussion about fine art. "You have to bring clients along on a journey," explains Behnke, a soft-spoken 59-year-old. "It's about teaching people to appreciate what they are paying for."

5 Little Changes that Can Take Your Small Business to the Next Level
Under 30 CEO
Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has revealed that "49 percent of establishments survive five years or more; 34 percent survive 10 years or more; and 26 percent survive 15 years or more." In other words, the probability of your business surviving the next five year is less than its probability of failing and this is no different online. If you're not careful, your business will most probably not last two years.

Connecting a Living Room and a Sunroom
The Washington Post
The challenge: Sherry Witt moved with her family to Falls Church last year, but she's stuck on how to design around a major feature in the living room: the glass doors that lead to the sunroom. She'd like a comfortable place where she can relax, and her girls, Sylvia and Evelyn, can play.
The solution: Designer April Force Pardoe creates a smart and functional space plan to encourage traffic flow between the two rooms, with spaces for adults and kids.

Sandy Gallin: Designer to the Stars
The Wall Street Journal
t's a Monday afternoon and Sandy Gallin—best known as a Hollywood talent manager—is hiding in music mogul Jimmy Iovine's bathroom. "I just need a quiet place where I can take this telephone call," he says. Outside, 120 people lay cobblestones, drill into walls and move furniture in order to get the 16,000-square-foot Wallace Neff-designed house in Holmby Hills ready in time for Iovine to move in. And Gallin is overseeing the entire project—from landscaping to interior design — for Iovine, the co-founder of Interscope Records and Beats by Dr. Dre electronics who often appears as a mentor on "American Idol."
