Great Attic Rooms
Elle Decor    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
It doesn't have to be dusty storage. Why not transform the attic into the most stylish room in the house? Rustic wood beams, for instance, can provide the framework for built-in shelving in the attic bedroom of a 16th-century house in France’s Loire Valley. A collection of wicker baskets is displayed alongside other flea-market finds. More

The Anatomy of a Successful Small Business Owner
BusinessNewsDaily (blog)    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
There's a lot of scientific research out there that examines the traits that many successful CEOs have in common.  CQRID NEWS
REMINDER FOR CQRID CERTIFIED PROFESSIONALS

As you are aware, you are now required to maintain .8 CEU's every two years. The deadline of Dec. 31 is fast approaching! This is a friendly reminder to submit your credits to the IDS/CQRID office to maintain your professional status.

The purpose of requiring CEU's is two-fold:

  1. CQRID is in the process of applying for full accreditation of the CQRID exam so that our professionals in states that have passed legislation may also be recognized for their professional efforts through CQRID and
  2. As required by all professional certification exams, it is required by our certifying body, (CCE), that professionals must stay abreast of current trends and changes in the industry in order to maintain their professional certification.
The following instructions clearly outline the process and requirements for filing your CEU credits through CQRID:
  • After each CEU approved program, you will receive a certificate signed and dated by the course instructor.
  • Send a copy of the certificate with a CEU Filing Form for each CEU, and a CEU payment form along with a $10.00 filing fee per CEU submitted to: CQRID, 164 S. Main Street, 4th Floor, High Point, NC 27260. Be sure to keep the original of that certificate for your files. Links for both documents are provided below for your convenience.
  • If you registered for a CEU approved program offered directly through IDS (market seminars offered by IDS, regional IDS conferences, national IDS conferences, or on-line CEU programs registered through IDS), it is not necessary to submit those credits; they are automatically recorded for you and do not require the $10.00 filing fee.
  • All other CEU approved programs must be turned in with the CEU Filing Form and the filing fee in order to receive credit.
  • You cannot receive double credits for participating in the same program more than one time.
  • CQRID honors all CEU approved credits. Therefore, those who are required to maintain certification through other organizations and/or state requirements can get credit in both arenas for each CEU approved course attended.
Your CQRID certification is important! You have successfully achieved the highest goal of professionalism in residential interior design by passing the CQRID exam; therefore it is of utmost importance that you maintain your professional status by maintaining the required number of CEU credits. We will forward another reminder prior to the end of the year. Please direct all questions and inquiries to the IDS office at 336-884-4437, ext. 222.

Must Haves for the Micro-Pad
The New York Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
So you've finally made it to the Big City, and all you can afford is a mini-apartment. Such is the situation outlined by New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg when he announced a competition to design a building of so-called "micro-units," no bigger than 300 square feet, presumably tailor-made for single adults, childless couples or really, really good friends. Building such a micro-pad is only half the battle, of course. After the paint dries, you still have to furnish it. But despair not. More

The Top 10 Lucite Pieces
ELLE Decor    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Of the many passing fancies exhibited at the 1939 World's Fair, one has proven its staying power: the acrylic resin known by the trade names Lucite and Plexiglas. Crystal clear, easily shaped, and strong, the material has inspired countless designers, from Gilbert Rohde, whose Plexiglas-and-tubular-steel chair debuted at the fair, to Karl Springer and Charles Hollis Jones in the 1960s and '70s.
