Crisp Geometrics That Will Shape Home-Décor Choices
The Associated Press via The Seattle Times
Quadrilaterals, cubes, polyhedrons — sound like 10th-grade math class? Perhaps, but they're also examples of one of this year's biggest trends in home décor. Crisp, contemporary and pleasing to the eye, geometrics work well for tables, lighting, accessories and soft furnishings. Nate Berkus is a fan of these modern motifs, as his fall collection at Target attests. He says one of his favorites is a wall-mounted art piece made of hexagonal metal.

Designing Bedrooms: Variations on a Theme
The Wall Street Journal
A home's design scheme can unravel when it comes to the bedrooms—where idiosyncratic tastes often trump a cohesive look. But while the five bedrooms that interior designers Mike Van Horn and Joan Finnigan pulled together for Rosemoor, a 90-year-old house overlooking the ocean in Nantucket, are quietly individual, they're unified by understatement. Painted plain white and curtainless, these rooms are steeped in natural light and furnished with vintage beds, monochromatically upholstered seating, flat rugs, found objects, fine linens, old books and new art.

Fall Decor Forecast: Eclectic, with Personality
The Associated Press via The Boston Globe
The era of specific decor trends is on the wane. Rooms full of traditional or modern furniture have been replaced by a more eclectic sensibility, interior decorators and designers agree. Mid-century sofas on a Swedish-country, flat-weave rug. Vintage lighting and a concrete coffee table. An antique Indian sari coverlet on a sleek, lacquered bed frame. Mixing and matching has become a trend in itself.

Hairstylist Guido Palau's Artful Manhattan, NY, Duplex
Architectural Digest
One day about four years ago, interior designer Robert Passal noticed a scruffy, boyish figure browsing the storefront window of his New York gallery and studio. The man walked in and said he’d like to buy the acrylic skull lamp with the stainless-steel shade on display. He asked if it could be shipped to London for a friend’s birthday, then jotted down an address. The name of the recipient, Alexander McQueen, was, of course, known to Passal, but the purchaser’s signature rang no bell. “As soon as the door closed behind him, our fashionista assistant freaked out,” Passal remembers.

Marriage Is Yard Work
The New York Times
It's a lot to ask of a 55-by-44-foot, concrete-covered lot. And to the extent that the couple is building practically every piece of furniture and planting every container, it's a lot to ask of themselves. You might say that Chantal Aida Gordon and Ryan Benoit are not transforming the garden so much as the garden is transforming them.

New Jersey Designer Sees Projects as Sum of Their Parts
Interior Design Prog
David Schaf sees interior design as a sum of its parts. It isn’t enough, he says, to choose a pretty pillow or a piece of art – a designer has to capture the client’s unique personality and convey the feeling he or she intends a room to exude.

Why Your Business Needs an App

Do you think your business is too small to benefit from an app? No way. Apps offer small businesses a means to increase revenues and visibility, as well as enhance the customer experience. But first you have to think of the idea, and that's where many small business owners get stuck.
