Online On-Demand Webinars are Here!!
IDS    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
IDS is proud to announce the availability of pre-recorded webinars at your convenience through our new online learning management system (LMS). We currently have seven CEU certified webinars available through our homepage (www.interiordesignsociety.org) link labeled 'LMS'. There are instructions on how to start the webinar, obtain handouts and take a quiz to show completion once you click on this link. We will have non-CEU certified webinars available after the first of the year. As live webinars are conducted through IDS, they will become available through the LMS if individuals are unable to join the live session. We also hope to premier our conference speakers through this venue in order for participants to gain wider exposure to the speaker's expertise. IDS will automatically update your CEU record when you participate in the online webinars through our LMS thus there is no need for additional CEU filing.

InteriorDesign Source    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
With a series of devastating natural disasters occurring from all stretches of the globe, natural disaster awareness has become a global focal point, and many in the built sector have been tasked with changing the way they design and develop. Interior design students from Baylor University have been asked to create a 400-square-foot disaster relief dwelling for the "Social Design Summit: Designing for Disaster Relief Housing." More

Bedroom as Battleground
The New York Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
ristyna Kreuger took a deep breath, girding herself to enter her 14-year-old son Brandon’s bedroom. Then she gingerly stepped in and described the spectacle. "Every drawer is open," Krueger said, speaking on the phone from her home in Lake Ozark, Mo. "His desk, the night stand, his computer desk, his dresser. You cannot walk without stepping on clothes, cords for charging things, cologne and body-spray bottles. He does paintball. That stuff is all over." She sidestepped his workout equipment but nearly tripped over a bowl of crushed potato chips that had been obscured by a sports award plaque. More

8 Mistakes to Avoid When Starting a Business From Home
Entrepreneur    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Launching a business from home can provide tremendous flexibility and the kind of work-life balance that we all crave. But the reality is that home businesses bring their own set of challenges, says Caroline Daniels, lecturer for entrepreneurship and technology at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. For example, "doing your business on your own from home can get stale. It's hard to keep feeding the imagination all on your own." More

Well Grounded
Architectural Digest    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Despite the compelling artwork and inviting furnishings that pepper Ben Soleimani’s airy Los Angeles home, visitors might be forgiven for staring down at their feet. After all, Soleimani is the scion of a Persian family that has been dealing in carpets for four generations. In fact, his father founded Mansour in London in 1980, selling palace-worthy weaves that have earned the company a Royal Warrant, making it an official purveyor to the British Royal Family. It’s not an overstatement to say that Soleimani has access to some of the best rugs on the planet. More

At USC's Phi Sigma Kappa, New Design Makes Frat More Fraternal
Los Angeles Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
When architect Ana Henton first toured what had been the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity house on University of Southern California's Greek Row last spring, she wasn't prepared for the end-of-semester squalor she saw. Leased to another fraternity, the house was in an extreme state of disrepair. "There were bongs and beer bottles everywhere, graffiti from other frat houses defacing their walls, mattresses in the courtyard, and a stripper pole in the main meeting room," said Henton, principal at Mass Architecture and Design in Los Angeles, who even found party detritus hidden inside the walls. 10 Bedside Pendant Lighting Ideas
Design Like    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
There’s no bedroom remodelling project which doesn’t include at least one or two light fixtures. Besides the functional role as a source light they have, light fixtures are highly appreciated nowadays by their aesthetic role they play in defining a room’s style. In fact, there’s very little chance to impress with any type of lamp or chandelier design as long as they fail to combine functionality with an original design idea. These days we find an enormous variaty of shapes, styles, designs, color and brightness regarding light fixtures, which allows us to complete the desired look of our bedroom. More

Say Ni Hao to Chinois
The Wall Street Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Chinoiserie is again in vogue. Avian prints and pagoda-shaped accents are everywhere, from Ralph Lauren Home's fall collection to the over-the-top ornamentation featured in decorator Ann Getty's new book, "Interior Style." What makes today's chinoiserie feel especially fresh is the degree of luxe: Materials are rich, prints are intricate, carved-wood details are exquisitely refined, colors and textures are bold. Think gold and crimson, nubby silk and high-touch velvet. More

Checking in with Thomas Pheasant
The Washington Post    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Interior designer Thomas Pheasant spends a lot of time visiting clients from Singapore to San Francisco, and he has an apartment in Paris. But Pheasant, a fourth-generation Washingtonian, also has a lot going on right here. Last month, Pheasant, 57, introduced his latest furniture collection (75 pieces) at the Baker store, just a block from his Georgetown office. He’s working on houses in Kalorama, McLean and St. Michaels. And he recently began a long-term project to refresh the rooms at Blair House, the president's guest house. More
