Is Instagram On The Web Worth It For Your Business?
Entrepreneur    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Popular photo-sharing app Instagram is becoming more business friendly. In addition to its iOS and Android app, the San Francisco-based image editing and sharing service has added an online tool called Instagram Profiles on the Web. It allows users to display and share photos on mobile phones as well as traditional Web pages. These new pages mean Instagram content can now be available to any Web user — not just those who have the Instagram mobile app or to Facebook subscribers. For business owners, a branded Instagram page online can be a quick, easy way to visually showcase products and more.

Designer Michael S. Smith Elevates Mountain Decor At A Tailored Retreat
Architectural Digest    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Can a mountain house be too mountainy? Michael S. Smith believes so. The Los Angeles–based interior designer has an aversion to a certain look endemic to contemporary log cabins in the American West. "So many places are decked out with red plaids and antler chandeliers," Smith laments. "It's like walking into a Christmas sweater." More

Protect Against Theft From RFID Readers
American Express OPEN Forum    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Millions of credit cards have been issued with embedded RFID chips. This technology emits a radio signal with the credit card's basic information. It allows customers to pay at the point of sale (POS) by simply tapping their card against a reader instead of having to swipe and go through the typical payment process. Thieves have figured out that they can use cheap scanners to read the radio signals emitted by these RFID chips and basically steal credit card data from anyone in close proximity without the card holder even knowing. Online On-Demand Webinars are Here!!

IDS is proud to announce the availability of pre-recorded webinars at your convenience through our new online learning management system (LMS). We currently have seven CEU certified webinars available through our homepage (www.interiordesignsociety.org) link labeled "LMS". There are instructions on how to start the webinar, obtain handouts and take a quiz to show completion once you click on this link. We will have non-CEU certified webinars available after the first of the year. As live webinars are conducted through IDS, they will become available through the LMS if individuals are unable to join the live session. We also hope to premier our conference speakers through this venue in order for participants to gain wider exposure to the speaker's expertise. The Washington Post    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The countdown has begun: Only a precious few days remain before the holiday entertaining season begins. For some of you, the impending deadline means sprucing up your neglected dining room, scrambling to find enough seating and silverware, sculpting your centerpiece and, of course, planning your menu. Well, don’t panic. The only thing more fun than decorating and entertaining is the intersection of the two — what you could call decor-taining. More

ELLE Decor    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

Now, with Lenny Kravitz the subject of this month’s Shortlist, we're revisiting the tower, this time looking at the common areas created by Kravitz and his eponymous design firm. "My vision for Paramount Bay is one that integrates the natural beauty and energy of Miami into a look that is as functional as it is inspirational," he says. More

'Million Dollar Decorators' Shop Kmart, Marshalls
Los Angeles Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Kathryn Ireland is known for her California casual approach to classic French and English country house decor, and fans of "Million Dollar Decorators" find her excitable demeanor and eccentric proclamations endearing. Strolling the aisles at Marshalls, Ireland suggests looking at whatever catches your eye, even if it turns out to be hideous. "I always say you've got to have some bad taste in house," she says. "I am serious. Because if everything is perfect, the thing that is not takes on its own life. You might buy something on a trip or get something from your grandmother that is not good taste and you should flaunt it." More

The New York Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Sometimes not having enough money to renovate right away can be a blessing in disguise. At least that’s how Nina Johnson-Milewski, an art dealer and the owner of Gallery Diet, and her husband, Dan Milewski, an artist who owns a cafe and wine bar, have come to regard it. More

The New York Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In 2007, when Laurel Touby, the freelance writers' saloniste, sold her online media company, Mediabistro, for $23 million, she banked a little more than half that amount and looked forward, she said at the time, to having a new car with a driver, a new apartment and a whole new life.
