The pilot of a Glasair Sportsman GS-2 was temporarily blinded after his aircraft took a direct hit from a wedge-tailed eagle at 5,500 feet. Wedge-tailed eagles typically weigh between seven and eight pounds. The incident, reported by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, serves as another reminder of the substantial damage and adverse effects to an aircraft's performance and handling qualities that can result from a bird strike.

Age is inevitable, but aging is not. Statistics prove it. Over the past 100 years, human lifespan has nearly doubled, from 46 to 77 years.
By the year 2030, one in five of the world population will be over 65 years old.
The takeaway from all these facts and figures? If you're in the so-called "golden years," you may have more life left than you think. So don't just sit there...go do something you love!

According to Light Plane Maintenance staff: A frequent reader question we receive is: Why does my engine seem to lack the power it once had? We can't tell you exactly what's wrong, but we can get you pointed in the right direction, and that begins with a systematic approach.
We can also tell you that one of the most common and hard to troubleshoot engine complaints is that of low power or low static rpm. Complaints on this subject were once so numerous on the Lycoming O‑235 series that Lycoming published an entire service instruction on the subject (S.I. 1388C).

Subscriber Question:
"Before departing on a cross-country flight, which convective forecasts should I be looking at?" — Rick H.
Scott's answer:
"At 55 minutes past each hour or as necessary, the forecaster staffing the convective SIGMET desk at the Aviation Weather Center (AWC) issues any and all convective SIGMETs (WSTs) for the entire contiguous U.S. and coastal waters. Remember that convective SIGMETs are advisories to pilots for active areas or lines of thunderstorms that are significant to aviation — convective SIGMETs are valid for two hours.

Like most entertainers, Rob Holland follows a routine as he prepares for a show.
Before changing out of his street clothes into his stage wardrobe, he'll go over the show with his production team. He'll mentally review all the little nuances in the show, even small things that might escape the attention of the audience.
Like most performers in Atlantic City, New Jersey, he'll be preceded by an opening act. And while the warm-up act is on, Holland has one last step to complete before he's ready to go — donning a carbon fiber MXS-RH outfit.

A Newfoundland man faces multiple charges after an alleged joyride in a relative's seaplane that ended with the aircraft upside down in a forest. The 32-year-old man reportedly helped himself to a relative's Cessna 180 near the coastal town of Jeffrey's in western Newfoundland.
