Drilling smarter: Reducing your costs using the latest drilling technologies
from KHL
Drill rig manufacturers continue to make safer, quieter, more productive machines using the latest technologies as the demand for more cost effective equipment grows. NIMBY Syndrome hits explosives training site originally backed by Maryland lawmakers
from FOX News
What started as an effort to create jobs in Queen Anne's County, Md., and increase national security has devolved into months of finger pointing, heated Facebook posts, dozens of furious letters, boycotts and a lot of extremely unhappy people. Community tension has been high since November, when Hunt Ray Farm in Ruthsburg, Md., was announced as the preferred site for the State Department's proposed 2,000-acre Foreign Affairs Security Training Center.  More

Danger in the quarry
from Rutland Herald
Men waving red flags and shouting a warning to townspeople to watch out for flying stone was a common sight in the early days of quarrying. "Through The Ages" in January 1924 depicted a typical quarrying scene as it occurred nearly 100 years prior. Cleanup after implosion at 1515
from WPTV
It took just six seconds to bring down what had stood for 36-years. The 1515 building disappeared in a cloud of dust and debris. A 30 story building was reduced to a 42 foot pile of crumbled concrete and mangled steel. Pat Reidy, who watched from Palm Beach, Fla., revisited the site. "I'm amazed it's such a small mountain of rubble," she said. "I actually expected to see a much larger, wider-spread mess than this pile that we've got here," added her husband Jim.  More

Blast's ripple effect
from Hartford Courant
Alain Dulac's Portland home faces the Kleen Energy power plant across the Connecticut River in Middletown, Conn., site of the deadly blast that rocked the area Feb. 7, killing five workers and injuring many others. While the river's wide expanse provides a cushion between his home and the plant, Dulac and his neighbors say the explosion was so strong, it cracked their homes' foundations, walls and ceilings.  More

Striking miners must leave Cananea
from Reuters
A Mexican court ruled that the massive Cananea copper mine was in force majeure, allowing mine owner Grupo Mexico to terminate the contracts of the workers who have been on strike for more than two years. In a big win for the company, the court sided with Grupo Mexico, which has argued the mine was inoperable and in force majeure because of damage sustained from neglect and sabotage since the strike began in July 2007.  More
