Going to extremes: Are these workplace productivity trends sustainable?

While many employers are concerned about the skills gap in this country, there seems to be another gap growing in today's workplace: a performance gap. According to a 2013 workplace survey, workplace performance has gone down 6 percent since 2008, due largely to a decrease in employee focus. Simplify outdated corporate processes

Unlike suburban housing developments or modern cities, organizations don't grow with some sort of rational master plan. They evolve naturally over time. In urban areas, this organic development leads to a chaotic mess of narrow, twisty, confusing streets and dead ends instead of a broad, easy-to-navigate grid. Just think of old European cities (or even Greenwich Village in New York). Organizations grow in a similar fashion.

How to give feedback without insulting employees

Recently, a European survey commissioned by Dale Carnegie Training found that only 34 percent of employees felt fully engaged in their work, leaving much room for improvement. Employees stated that their emotions (and engagement) were driven by the behavior of their immediate supervisors. The quickest way to disengagement? When a manager made an employee feel insulted. To avoid this issue, give employee feedback and constructive criticism in a positive way.

Instructional design models and theories: schema theory

Sir Frederic Charles Bartlett (1886–1969) was a British psychologist, the first professor of experimental psychology at the University of Cambridge and one of the precursors of cognitive psychology. Bartlett advanced the schema theory to provide a basis for a temporal alternative to traditional spatial storage theories of memory, since it describes the way knowledge is acquired, processed and cerebrally organized.
