SAM Group Learning Session: Childhood Illness module

Q: What is a SAM Group Study Session?
A: Get credit for the Childhood Illness Self-Assessment Module of your American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) Maintenance of Certification though the SAM Group Study Session. At the session, diplomates will discuss and complete the 60-question Knowledge Assessment portion of the module presented by KAFP and moderated by Jen Brull, MD, FAAFP. Following the session, the facilitator will provide the names of all participants to ABFM stating you have completed this SAMs module. You will be required to log-in individually on your own and complete the Clinical Simulation.

2014 Resolutions conference call
Four new resolutions were submitted for board action this year. The board will also review resolutions from 5 years ago to decide whether to retain, rewrite or sunset them. You can view all the resolutions here: 2014 Resolutions.

The KAFP Reference Committee meets TODAY, Tuesday, May 27, at 12:15 p.m. by conference call. The committee recommendations will be available at the Member Meeting during the Annual Meeting on Friday, June 6. The board will discuss and take action at its meeting on Saturday, June 7.

Memorial Day holiday alters BCBSKS provider payment schedule
Due to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas being closed Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day, the provider payment schedule will be as follows:

• Friday, May 23 — Regular weekly payments. These payments will be mailed Tuesday, May 27 and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) payments will be sent Tuesday, May 27 and deposited into providers' accounts Wednesday, May 28.

Great Plains Public Health Leadership
The Great Plains Public Health Leadership is a regional institute focusing on leadership development in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, South Dakota and the Great Plains Region.

The Institute strengthens leaders by offering training
  • at the individual level (Who am I as a leader? What style(s) do I use to lead?),
  • the organizational level (How can I build effective teams? How does my leadership affect others in my organization?),
  • and the trans-organizational level (How can I influence the public health system through my leadership?).

Attention Kansas applicants:
