Ball Corp. to Close Manufacturing Plant
Boulder County Business Report
Ball Corp. says it will close a food packaging and aerosol can manufacturing plant in Elgin, Ill., in December. Broomfield, Ill. based Ball will report a $21 million after-tax charge as a result of the closure, according to a company press statement. The plant's 245 workers will receive severance pay and can apply for other open positions within the company.
US Manufacturing Weakens, But May Rebound Quickly

Manufacturing got off to a weak start this year in the United States as motor vehicle output tumbled in January, but a rebound in factory activity in New York State suggested that any setback would be temporary. In a further sign that the sluggish economic recovery remains on track, consumers were a bit more upbeat, even as they paid more for gasoline and a tax increase reduced their paychecks.

The Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund was created as a benefit to children of MDNA member firm employees.
The scholarship applications for the 2013-2014 academic year have been mailed. Completed applications must be received by May 15 at the MDNA headquarters for consideration for the following Fall semester.

Harriet M. Finn passed away peacefully on Valentine's Day. She was the wife of the late Joseph Finn, founder of Joseph Finn Co., Inc., Auctioneers & Appraisers in 1954 and long-time members of the MDNA. Port prices in Benelux terminals increased this week as local recyclers eyed gains in bimonthly settlements with local steelmakers and exporters tried to fill vessels for shipments already booked to Turkish steelmakers, market participants said. Mills in Turkey had been holding off scrap purchases in handy size cargoes after seeing a weaker euro after Italian elections and believing that some oversupply would help weaken prices.
