Letter from the President
Dear MDNA Members,
I sincerely hope all of you are having a fantastic summer. It was good seeing many of you at our convention last month at Disney's BoardWalk Inn. We had members from as far away as Europe attend and a great time was had by all.
I know that like myself, your lives are likely busy and hectic, working in the used machinery industry. And therefore, we sometimes lose sight of the many benefits that come with belonging to MDNA.
This quick note is intended to draw your attention to one of the benefits that come with MDNA membership.
The MDNA "Lunch & Learn" Webinar Series is a fantastic member benefit that is available to all member companies and all of your employees.
Our goal is to run one every month. Did you catch last week's webinar on the CNC Machine Tool Market? Presented by John Lawton, CEA, General Manager of Machinesused.com. John shared his insight learned from over 29 years in the used machinery business. And last month Craig L. Ward, CEA of F. P. Miller Company shared his in-depth knowledge of Blanchard Grinders.
This free member benefit is here for you. Brush up on the latest industry specific news, or have a new employee register and expand their knowledge base.
Members can take advantage of the expanded educational offerings in both industry relevant and general business topics through the use of these online webinars.
Webinars are announced via e-mail two weeks in advance and are posted on the calendar page at www.mdna.org.
If you have a topic that you would like covered or would like to volunteer to teach a webinar please contact the national office.
I use this member benefit and so should you!
MDNA President — Joe Lundvick, CEA

Not a day goes by without something crossing our screens about the transformation of manufacturing. Or the 4th Industrial Revolution. Or advanced manufacturing. Whatever we call it, we can't ignore that something — something big — is happening in manufacturing.
The internet of things is undoubtedly the flavor of the month, but taking your project from initial concept to successful completion isn't straightforward and requires careful planning. Hele Saunders offers five key steps companies should take to minimize the risks to their projects.
For years, manufacturers attempted to cut the cost of making a product by taking aim at individual parts or raw materials and the companies that supplied them. Cut the price of the things that go into making a product and a company could lower the manufacturing costs and increase profitability. But those fixes are temporary, and need to be constantly re-negotiated.
Companies that migrate to a cloud enterprise resource planning solution quickly experience the benefits of scalability and cost-efficiency that were previously only possible through expensive on premise solutions. So it’s no surprise a recent report from IDC predicts that by 2021, worldwide spending on cloud services will reach $266 billion, indicating 21 percent growth over the next five years.
By 2022, more than 40 percent of manufacturers will invest in wearable technologies to abolish pen and paper processes within their supply chain, according to new international research. The study — conducted by Zebra Technologies — found that manufacturers across EMEA are set to increase in a variety of new technologies in an effort to bring goods to market faster (43 percent), to address burgeoning supply chain complexity (41 percent) and to improve connectivity throughout their facilities (40 percent).
