Nearly four days ahead of a forecast cold snap, three natural gas utilities are notifying their "Interruptible Customers" to stop burning natural gas as of a specific day and hour.

Regulators say oil in recent accidents may be more dangerous to move by rail
Mainebiz
Federal regulators believe the oil involved in the July 2012 Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway explosion in Lac-Megantic, Quebec, may be more dangerous to move by rail than other varieties. The Portland Press Herald reported the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration issued its preliminary conclusion about the Bakken oil, three days after another explosive crash in North Dakota, which was the fourth in the last six months.

Despite reports, response slow to danger of oil fires on rail tankers
The Kansas City Star
Five years before a train loaded with crude oil derailed and exploded last year in Quebec, killing 47 people, another derailment in Oklahoma should have given federal regulators an early warning that the type of oil both trains carried was more flammable than authorities realized. But little has been done to improve the safety of tens of thousands of railroad tank cars that have been pressed into service in recent years to haul large quantities of crude oil and ethanol.

Insulation, sealing better way to cut Maine heating assistance costs
Portland Press Herald

Crude oil carried by Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway train riskier to ship than other oil
Bangor Daily News
Crude oil produced in North America’s Bakken region may be more flammable and therefore more dangerous to ship by rail than crude from other areas, a U.S. regulator said after studying the question for four months. The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration announced its preliminary conclusion three days after a BNSF Railway Co. train carrying oil caught fire after a collision in Casselton, N.D., and nearly six months after a Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway train carrying crude oil derailed and exploded in Lac-Megantic, Quebec.
