CBS' 'The Good Wife' sold in multiplatform deal
Broadcasting & Cable
CBS Corp. has sold its drama, The Good Wife, in a multiplatform deal that includes subscription video with on demand services, a basic cable network and broadcast television stations. All told, The Good Wife will end up fetching as much as $2 million an episode, according to sources, putting it on par with other network dramas that were sold soley in broadcast and cable syndication.

Nielsen reports increased video streaming on game consoles

For the third year in a row, Nielsen reported notable increases in the amount of time users streamed video on game consoles. Console users in 2012 spent 22 percent of their time streaming movies and TV programs, up from 19 percent in 2011 and 13 percent in 2010.

2013 NAMIC Next Generation Leaders call for nominations released
NAMIC
NAMIC has announced its call for nominations for the 2013 Next Generation Leaders Awards. Honoring emerging executives for their professional achievements, as well as their efforts in fostering multi-ethnic diversity and inclusion, the Next Generation Leaders Awards will be presented during the NAMIC Annual Awards Breakfast. Business leaders age 45 and under are eligible for nomination. Awards are presented in four categories: Cable MSO, Cable Programmer, Technology Company or Discipline and Creative Discipline. The nominations deadline is April 5.

Spanish-language TV ad spending up 20 percent

In a year of slow advertising spending growth, television was among the strongest media segments, according to new figures from Kantar Media. Spanish-language TV spending jumped 20 percent in the fourth quarter, with higher sell-out levels at the broadcast networks. For the year, Spanish-language TV was up 15 percent.

BET is not alone anymore. For three decades, Black Entertainment Television has been the major provider of programs for and about African-Americans. Now more networks — like WEtv and OWN — are trying to reach those viewers, who make up about 13 percent of TV households and watch almost seven hours of programming per day.

Nielsen: 'Zero TV' homes skew younger, single

About 44 percent of American consumers who don't have pay TV or over-the-air television are under 35, and 81 percent of the estimated 5 million "zero TV" households in the U.S. have no children, according to Nielsen. However, viewing behavior varies by ethnicity. The average African-American household spent close to 55 hours per week watching traditional live TV, while Hispanics logged just over 35 hours and Asian-Americans watched less than average (more than 27 hours weekly).
