American Black Film Festival launches multicultural TV & media expo in New York City set for June

The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) has announced its hosting of the first multicultural television and media expo in New York City, which will provide a space for network, cable, and Internet/digital media broadcasters to promote programming and showcase diversity initiatives to more than 7,000 consumers.

Univision host Rodner Figueroa has been let go for offensive remarks about First Lady Michelle Obama. It all started on Wednesday, when a picture of Obama flashed on the screen of the popular program "El Gordo y La Flaca." Figueroa commented that "Michelle Obama looks like she's part of the cast of Planet of the Apes."

Columnist Patt Morrison writes: "[Darrell] Hunt heads the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies [at UCLA] and co-writes an annual report on Hollywood diversity. This year — the report's second — it surveys 2013 films and the 2012-13 television season. The dismal findings were released three days after the Oscars, which included no minorities among the acting nominees. But, as always in Hollywood, there's hope in the last reel.
