McDowell to leave FCC
Broadcasting & Cable
FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell announced at the FCC's public meeting that he will be exiting the commission in "a few weeks." McDowell is the longest-serving current commissioner, having joined the commission in 2006 to fill the unexpired term of Chairman Michael Powell. His first term ended June 1, 2009, but he was renominated by President
Barack Obama and confirmed for a new, five-year term.

Cedric 'the Entertainer' named 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' host

Comedian and actor Cedric "the Entertainer" will fill the seat vacated by Meredith Vieira as host of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," Disney/ABC Domestic Television announced. Cedric will join the show for its 12th season in national syndication this fall.
NUVOtv restructures content team, preps comedy show
Cable veteran Bill Hilary has been tapped to head up programming at NUVOtv, the Los Angeles based network targeting younger U.S. Hispanic viewers. Hilary, a former executive vice president and general manager at Comedy Central and president of BBC America, started work in early February. He is already developing new programs, including the upcoming comedy series "Stand Up & Deliver!," set to premiere April 2.
BET Networks licenses package of iconic African-American comedies

BET Networks has licensed a package of iconic, off-net programming from Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. The series, which features world-recognized and award-winning actors such as Will Smith, Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence, includes "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," "Family Matters," "Martin," "The Jamie Foxx Show" and "The Wayan Bros." to air on BET and CENTRIC.

Despite his history as an aggressive and sometimes fiery advocate, outgoing CNN analyst Roland Martin is surprisingly reserved when discussing the cable newschannel's decision not to renew his contract after six years as a high-profile analyst, often speaking on black issues.

'Wendy Williams' adds 2 months of originals

Debmar-Mercury's "Wendy Williams" will remain in originals for two months longer than planned, extending production through July, the company said. Debmar-Mercury has been pleased by Wendy's recent ratings. The show averaged a 1.3 live plus same-day national household rating in the February 2013 sweep, up 8 percent from last February's 1.2.
'Comics Unleashed' renewed on CBS stations

"Comics Unleashed With Byron Allen" has been renewed for two more seasons, it was announced by Byron Allen's Entertainment Studios, which produces and distributes the show. The renewal would take the show through 2014, which would be its ninth year on the air.
HBO Latino series 'Habla' turns 10
HBO Latino this year celebrates the 10th anniversary of "Habla," a 12-part documentary series in which U.S. Latinos from all walks of life share their experiences — recent or not — as U.S. immigrants. The latest in the series, "Habla Women," will show at 8 p.m April 18. It features testimonials by such prominent Latinas as Olympic boxing champion Marlen Esparza; NASA researcher Adriana Ocampo; CNN journalist Rose Arce; and adult film star Vanessa Del Rio. El NBA: Insulting Latino names or smart marketing?

Every March the NBA reaches out to the country's fastest-growing minority with Noche Latina, a campaign to celebrate Hispanic heritage. And every March some bloggers criticize the league for its most visual and commercial aspect: the jerseys worn by certain teams. Instead of translating team names like Heat (Calor) or Bulls (Toros), the NBA simply puts a definite article in front, for a Spanglish touch, with El Heat and Los Bulls.
Entertainment Studios Networks Inc. names Eric Clayton as senior VP
Entertainment Studios Networks announces expansion of its distribution, sales, and marketing team with the appointment of Eric Claytor as senior vice president, Affiliate Distribution & Marketing. Claytor will be responsible for accelerating distribution efforts for the company's portfolio of eight HD cable television networks nationwide.
