NAMIC announces call for entries for the 2015 Excellence In Multicultural Marketing Awards
NAMIC is now accepting entries for the 2015 NAMIC Excellence in Multicultural Marketing Awards. Among the industry's leading competitions honoring achievements in multicultural marketing, the awards recognize outstanding efforts targeting African American, Asian, Hispanic, LGBT and other diverse segments of the consumer base.
Winners of the Excellence in Multicultural Marketing Awards will be acknowledged during the 29th Annual NAMIC Conference, scheduled for Sept. 29-30 at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York as part of Diversity Week.

Univision buys leading black news site The Root
The Huffington Post
The Root has a new home to grow in. Hispanic media juggernaut Univision Communications Inc. bought the site from Graham Holdings Co. for an undisclosed amount in a deal recently announced. Univision hopes the acquisition of the leading black news site in the country will help expand their audience as demographics in the country continue to shift.
Commentary: Still room for more 'Black-ish' roles on TV
R. Thomas Umstead writes: "With the 2014-15 television season now in the books, a recent Ratings Intelligence report revealed that three of the top five highest-rated broadcast dramas of 2015 featured a predominately African-American cast or was headed by an African-American actor/actress: 'Empire,' 'How to Get Away with Murder' and 'Scandal.'
"With the success of those broadcast TV shows — as well as cable series such as 'Power,' 'Being Mary Jane' and 'The Haves and Have Nots' — featuring predominately African-American cast or lead actors, it's hard to believe there was a time when such images weren't a major part of the television landscape."

Lisa Respers France, a senior producer for CNN Digital and host of the "Lisa's Desk" video franchise, writes: "From the beginning I have been a fan of model Tess Holliday. Not only is she gorgeous, but at 5-feet-5, 280 pounds and a size 22, she looks a great deal more like me than most other models, even among plus-size ones. Which is why I was thrilled to learn that Holliday — who captured headlines when she became the first model of her stature to sign with a major modeling agency — made the cover of People magazine."

CBS Corporation: Directing Initiative accepting new applications
through May 30
The Directing Initiative will select directing candidates for episodic network television and match them with directors of CBS Television Network drama and comedy series. The goal is to bridge the gap for those talented directors attempting to break into network television.
The Directing Initiative will accept new applications through Saturday, May 30. The primary focus of CBS' Diversity Institute and the Directing Initiative is to provide access and opportunities for talented and motivated diverse directors with a focus on directors of color.
Telemundo, NBC Universo kick off FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand broadcast on May 29
NBC Deportes will present the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015, live May 29 through June 19, on the Telemundo network and NBC Universo cable channel, kicking off a series of FIFA World Cup events scheduled for 2015.
Netflix rival Hooq to launch in India

Sony, Warner Bros. and Singtel-backed SVoD service Hooq is about to launch in India one of the international markets where Netflix has yet to roll out. Hooq was announced in January, at which point the three partners outlined plans to launch in Indonesia, the Philippines, India and Thailand. It has already launched in the Philippines and Thailand. The Indian launch has now been confirmed, and a beta version launches today ahead of a full roll out next month.

In a scenario like this, highlighting the key digital content consumption trend in India, an Outbrain research titled "Content Consumption Trends" shows that the Indian mobile market is clearly dominated by the Android user, where a staggering 76 percent of the overall content consumed on smartphones is consumed on an Android device — second only to Malaysia.
Pepsi launches Pepsi Limón
Among the soft truths in marketing is that Latinos love flavor (but not peanut butter and pretzels). So Pepsi is bringing back lime flavored Pepsi, and this time it's marketing the product to Hispanic consumers. It's called Pepsi Limón, and it "captures the tart, refreshing taste that Hispanics love to enjoy," according to a press release. Specifically, Pepsi means lime and sugar.
'Para chuparse los dedos' means 'Finger Lickin' Good' is back at KFC
Kentucky Fried Chicken has launched a new Hispanic marketing campaign that aligns with the timing of its exciting, new broad market initiative. The campaign, called "para chuparse los dedos," was created by the Louisville-based KFC Hispanic agency of record, Scoppechio, and announces the return of one of the most famous slogans in advertising history, "Finger Lickin' Good™."
